Topic: GLCOAT update: NEW WHEELS!

The late 70's Oldsmobile Starfire 13"x5" steelies that it came with have finally been replaced with something worthy, a set of new DRAG DR36 17"x7.5" alloy wheels with 205/40ZR17 Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires. All eight wheels and tires, mounted, balanced, and shipped to my door with the tuner lug nuts: $1,498 from Discount Tire Direct. What a difference they make!!!

BTW, it was about 35 degrees and alternating between snow and rain while DC Doug and I worked on the car all afternoon yesterday. It took hours to bleed the brakes, but we got them bled, even though a caliper or two is still frozen, and the brake pedal needs some HD return springs.

We were supposed to get the new ignition system done yesterday too, but the weather and a funeral postponed it...

BTW, the bolt pattern was 4 on 4", so I had to order a $361 set of adapters from Adapter Kings. The new pattern is 4 on 4.5", or 114.3, which is a common size. I'd order a spare wheel/tire, but there's no place to put it in this car.

put the spare on the rear lid

Yee-Haw 2010 "Most Heroic Fix" & "I Got Screwed" -2 trophies for 1 lap, but I took checkered on my lap.
Gator-O-Rama 2012 "Organizers Choice" -2 laps 1 trophy, but i still finished ahead of an E30
Yee-Haw 2013 No trophy -26 laps, I think I see a pattern here
Gator-O-Rama 2014 "Waiting for the Last Minute Call from the Governor Award" -who's counting? John

Re: GLCOAT update: NEW WHEELS!

The frame is so rigid I'm pretty sure we could get away with running it without (any) one tire.  It also takes every bit of lift a 3 ton race jack can deliver to raise a corner... no tiny scissor jack for this car!

You went the wrong way... Minis use 4 x 4" so you shoulda gone with some 10" wheels at least up front like the Tyrell 6 wheeler...

keep up the good work!

looks great w/ the 17's.

Are you getting anything out of the advertising?  Free tiedowns?

My Stepdads street rod was a Vertex advertising car for a few years.  They flew him to SEMA, Daytona, and outfitted the car w/ some nice upgrades (aeroquipped the whole car...).
