Topic: Awesome tow vehicle

Someone has to make a mobile party lounge.  I mean, we have a bowling alley, why not a huge party lounge with velure interior and pillow floors.  Hell, make a portable hookah lounge.  THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

How much is flatcar rail freight from... Say, Long Beach to Harrisburg or Baltimore?

... Does anybody even know how to buy non-containerized rail capacity? Is that even a thing you can do anymore?

Easy solution - buy a $3000 Toyota SR5 Crew Cab in your home town, drive it to Oxnard, trade even up for the beast and then drive it home.

Re: Awesome tow vehicle

That is seriously one of the coolest tow vehicle options, ever.  The only thing that would out-awesome it for me would be an Autocar.

The building that I own, work in, and make my living renting offices in is the International Harvester office/showroom/parts warehouse/truck garage from the 1920's.  It was primarily for farm implements, but for me the warm fuzzies bleed over into their larger trucks as well since my grandparents bought the building as part of their moving, rigging, and storage business in the 40's and used it for their trucks.

Re: Awesome tow vehicle

To make the wife extremely happy.  If you are in PA, or going to be at Summit, and can get me a flight from Tejas to Cali, with money for fuel.  Ill drive this thing cross country for delivery*

*if my wife kills me because I offered this, then I guess the deal is off*

Re: Awesome tow vehicle

Rail would be the right way to deliver. I am pretty sure you could get it done for less than the cost of fuel to drive it home.

Only downside is how to make this happen. I say grab the phone and start punching numbers.

This could be a great paddock mobile club/bar. It could be named the 25th Hour.

Re: Awesome tow vehicle

Here's a good support truck, but I don't think it would tow very well with the short wheelbase. Diesel and has a toolbox lift.

Clearly the answer is to extend the frame in the center of the chassis to give improved towing stability. Chop the toolbox lift part off right behind the drive wheels and insert it in front of the drive wheels so that you don't have that nasty rear overhang which also makes towing more difficult. All you need is a sawzall, some welding, a custom driveshaft, and some extended brake hardlines, and voila!

What are you waiting for anyway? The Shaguarillac or Caddilaur-Rex or whatever you call it needs this as its tow vehicle, sir. NEEDS IT! smile

Re: Awesome tow vehicle

Nah, I don't even have time to finish the Jagillac right now. If I were to upgrade, I'd get rid of my 18' open trailer for a 24' enclosed trailer and install a bathroom, toilet, sink, microwave, shelves, fold-down bunks, roof-mount AC, and lighting. I've also been trying to talk my wife into getting rid of her '00 Honda Accord V6 and our '99 Suburban and buying a 7.3 F-250 crew cab. She's much more interested than she would be in a school bus, and I'd save a bunch on insurance and tags.
