Re: Themes you'd like to see done
It's like The Homer built on a Cimarron platform, so double win if you home-build this.

Has anyone done a Ken Powers Lincoln Continental? Would the winglets have to be removed before racing?
Now I just need a '75-'76 Continental...
"The St. Lawrence Express"
You know what this series need? Video game themes but the problem is that the judges don't seem to know many like there was someone did a great TF2 theme and making it look like a payload cart but the reason they won the Judge's Choice was the Fat Man replica which wasn't even the main focus.
I really want to make car with a Hornet theme from Daytona USA but since I'm in Europe, my best chance is getting into a Street Safari. It's just in a shape of a NASCAR car and you would need something in the shape of it like a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Are you another GOD-DAMNED E30 team? Want to have a theme? Go for the BMW M3 GTR on Most Wanted
Do you have a Mustang? Go for Razor's car in Most Wanted. Accuracy and Accountancy Wizardry Points for getting a Last Gen in the race, Some-What-Accurate points for using a 1st or 2nd gen, Comedic Gold points for Fox Body and Shame points for 4th gen.
No "Thunder Machine" yet?
It's been over 2 years. Still no Thunder Machine.
When my house cat was pestering me for attention, an ill-defined idea for a Jag or Cougar came to mind: Lap Cat!
Cover the car in fuzz-bedecked pairs of pants?
On the video game theme idea: back when we were considering a very rusty 1970 Challenger for our car, I was thinking about turning it into the muscle car from Half Life 2, Episode 2. Dress your drivers up like Gordon, Alyx, Barney, Kleiner, etc. The more obscure the better, right? The main problem, of course, was that a LeMon needs a hood and fenders.
Okay... who's gonna be the first Russian Meteorite????

That car looked more like a charger to me... I always thought that the game was paying homage to the dukes of hazzard with that part, using the car to jump the missing bridge and all
There was a team that made a pretty cool looking companion cube from portal.

...and doors, windshields and a roof.
Half-Life 2 isn't obscure but, the thing is that no-one really does video game themes. If you want be OBSECURE and have VIDEO GAMES theme and you have an uncommon Japanese car, go with Choro-Q/Penny Racers/Road Trip characters. The problem is that most of the cars in the game didn't get imported USA or is insanely expensive like a Paul Newman Skyline, 1st Gen Mazda Cosmo, 99% of Kei Cars in the game and many more and the American cars in the game have nothing special to them like a decal.

Same, I also thought It was a Charger.
Also, another video game theme idea. Mass Effect.
Get a mini-van, give 2 more wheels and a Turret on the top (Bonus points, If you can keep make it go left and right randomly) make it look like a Mako.
Getting the drivers look like Shepard, Kaidan and Ashley would be easy but, If you want to do Wrex, Tali or Garrus. You better have experience in costume making or have another 500$ spare.
"Danica grabs the pole" brought to you by Peak.....too soon?
Well, a Challenger is the car we had access to, and it was the perfect rusty cream color. Doors wouldn't be too much of a difference, we just would've needed to convertible-ize it, and I doubt the owner would have been on board for that. If anyone does this theme, you absolutely must have a garden gnome in the car for the whole race, in order to unlock the achievement.
I didn't mean HL2 was an obscure game, just that the muscle car from Ep2 isn't what most people would think of for a "video game car." I think doing a car from an actual racing game is too obvious. The Mako from Mass Effect would be awesome, as long as your team was willing to put in a lot of work to do it right.
A relatively easy one would be Saint's Row. Any car works, as long is it's painted purple and yellow with ridiculously ostentatious spoilers, rims, decals, and trim. Dress your drivers up like the supporting characters if you want, or just go for generic "overly-commercialized thug life." Bonus points for a giant paper-mache Johnny Gat bobblehead.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Sweet Tooth van from Twisted Metal, as it's probably the most iconic non racing video game vehicle. Plus, even people who don't know squat about video games would get the concept.
I don't think we should exclude Racing games, sure they are more obvious but as long that they are made good why not?
I just had a GREAT IDEA,
A CRAZY TAXI theme, You need a 60s Cadillac Eldorado /60s Bel-Air/MK1 Mustang/1949 Mercury.
Doing the characters would also be easy, doing the car would be easy (Yellow car, with checkers pattern)

I never played Twisted Metal but, Wasn't it a Demo Derby game with guns?
Also, fixed your image.
I want the auto equivalent of Ben's modified Corley! Must have at least three times as many exhaust pipes as cylinders.
Or how about an Interstate '76/ Vigilante 8 theme? It was kinda like the Twisted Metal series, but set in an alternate 1976 and featured several cars from the 60's and 70's. All you'd need is a '69 Lincoln Continental with machine guns and rocket launchers.

We need a Krieger van from Archer.
Fur suiters
We need a Krieger van from Archer.
You know, I just realized from your post that those are all Rush albums. And I consider myself a pretty serious fan! (Of both.)
Total Archer theme is totally doable with the right van.

I'm going to have to start watching Archer now.
Archer would be a great theme. We would just have to dress some of the male team members up like women, because I sadly do not know any foxy black women. Or large white women willing to play Pam.
I'm going to have to start watching Archer now.
I just picked up season one and blew thru it in three days.
still trying to track down a season 2 locally.

For a while they were selling full Poovey Farms team outfits from the "Drift Problem" episode where it is revealed that Pam is an underground street racer with ties to the Yakuza, or Triad or something.

I introduced some friends to season 1 on vacation. By night two we'd watched the whole season.
I have season 2 on DVD, but I'm in Chicago. I wonder if it's on Netflix yet...

Several seasons are on Netflix, but not enough
