Great stuff. I would have loved to see some in-car video but I guess the camera would have added too much weight for that car.

Looks like the donor was either a Moto Guzzi 1000SP or a Convert due to the floorboards, heel/toe shifter, rear disk brake and 28mm Del Orto carb non-pumper setup. Stock horsepower on them is roughly 60hp +/- according to specs. You could bump it with the big valve heads, carillo rods, agostini timing gears and some 40mm flatslides, but then you'd blow your $$$ limit for Lemons....

Correct - is/was a '75 Convert - spec is 70hp, but realistically, probably closer to 60 as stated.   The stock 600 motor was rated at 35hp.  However, the one that came with the car was hopelessly seized, so it would have made 0 hp.

Kept the Convert motor stock due to cost, and the 600 driveline is only good for about 80hp and it starts to explode.  The stock 600 clutch was used, with stronger springs thrown in to the pressure plate.

Kind of the amazing thing is, to make this work, only 2 custom parts were needed - a spacer/adaptor bell to mate the 600 flywheel to the guzzi crank, and an adaptor plate to hang on the guzzi crankcase to give me a place to bolt the 600 transmission onto.  Everything else is stock parts.  Well, ok, the Dellortos would have smacked into the bellhousing, so had to make new straight inlets to hang the carbs on.

Heh - too bad the previous owner cut the roof out to do a Webasto type conversion.  We had to attach the body to the cage to prevent the doors from poping open. wink

According to Mario Colombo's book Moto Guzzi, the original engine was tested in a FIAT Topolino car. First, a five hundred, then a six fifty engine was manufactured, which fitted perfectly to the Fiat's transmission. -- Moto Guzzi Twins Restoration, Mick Walker pg.12

That would've probably been the original v7 engine, later the Eldorado's 750.  The Loop Frame & Tonti Frame are slightly different, but many of the parts are interchangeable. I've even heard that the Convert uses a FIAT torque converter, but have never found a parts interchange...and since I lost my Convert driveline in Katrina (replaced it with Cal III from a wreck) I stopped researching it.

Needless to say, I *lust* after your Fiat. Well done smile

And that would be why I knew you could do it.  I should actually buy that book, I think.

Fiat produced a handful of automatics - the 600/multipla came in an icondromerico(?) or automatic version.  But they were known to be absolutely terrible, so I don't imagine the torque converters are very plentiful.

The torque converter in the Guzzi was in two pieces - the hydraulic unit and an adaptor bell that it bolted in to.  I took the hyudraulic unit out of the bell, and used the bell as the spacer/adaptor plate to bolt the 600 flywheel onto.

Re: Guzzi Fiat Vids and such

Yes it was a sad day when we brought this little gem home.
Truly over 50% of the body is in some kind of rust and decay.
It came with a motor sitting on a piece of plywood in the back.
I struggled with our options and if you look at our blog you will see where we are going with it.
I have a photo of the rear of a Fiat 600 to show what hopefully the rear end of the Multipla will
look like when we are done.
