Speaking of which, how about a Dalek or TARDIS theme on a correspondingly British car?

WHEN is somebody going to just drop a travel trailer body over their ride? Seems like it would be super easy to do, and look hilarious going down the track.

Why do you need a kit?  All those body panels are flat, and the trim and stuff could be had at the junk yard.  I suggest a 4cyl Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda or Isuzu pick up truck.  Frame, motor, 5 speed, brakes, all better than a real MG.

Looks a lot like this one:

It came as either VW based or Pinto based. I've got other plans...

BTW: When you get a car with a slab of concrete poured in the nose for ballast, it's gotta be a good sign, no? And the nest? I think they're living in my garage now, having moved out of their "motor home". Anyone have a cat I can borrow?

BAH!

Better was not what I meant, maybe "stouter" or "more robust" or maybe "designed after the second World War"?

For a few years now I have been considering buying a Toyota pick up (has to be a Toyota, everything else has 6 lug wheels) and building myself a "sports car" out of it for the  street.  If California would get with the program and go back to a rolling 30 year smog exemption I'd have done it already.  They stopped at 1975 and seem to be happy there.

i'm acutally putting together the parts of this idea right now (tho less locost/sports car and more t-bucket).

btw, hilux and tacoma frames are hard to come by for good money, while a decade's worth of d21 frames are all over the place. doing a 5-lug swap on a d21 is cake...the minitruckers have been doing it for almost 20 years, now.

i'm sticking with the 6-lug route, since i'm running 18" steel wheels all the way around. with chevrolet, toyota, nissan, isuzu, moving to or staying with 6-lug across the board in the early 00s there are a lot more 6-lug wheel options out there.

Re: Themes you'd like to see done

Yes, in the 6-lug style (6 on 5.5"), there are tons of wheels from old 4x4s.  In my junkpile there are 15x5.5, 15x6, 15x8, 15x10, 16x7,  all off old toyota scrap 4WD's.  No problem finding more 16x7 or 16x8 wheels off Tacos or 4runners on CL.

Re: Themes you'd like to see done

Okay, I wasn't clear. It's not that 6 lug wheels are hard to find, but besides plain steel wheels there are no 6 lugs I would want to put on a ersatz British sports car.

Re: Themes you'd like to see done

The other day I thought of calling ourselves the Graffeatists.  (Mash up of Graffiti and Defeatist)  Show up Friday with the car all white except for the numbers.  Then Friday night after tech and what not tape off the windshield and numbers and invite the rest of the paddock to stop by for a paint and beer party.  Let the rest of you whack jobs paint our car for us with a selection of Krylon shaker can paints.  Whatever you come up with we will run on Saturday.  Once the track goes cold on Saturday bring out the beer and krylon and let everyone go to town on it again.  I figure we could get some pretty interesting designs.

Re: Themes you'd like to see done

At a local car show a couple weeks ago there was a similar entry.  A group of people brought several vehicles, one of which was a late model Caprice (the rounded bubble ones) that had been painted a combination of flat black everywhere else and flat green on the hood.  They provided colored chalk and invited people to draw designs on any body panel they wanted.  I suppose after the car show they could just hose it off.  It got quite a lot of attention and changed a lot throughout the day.

Just be careful if you get any black flags!  The judges could get pretty creative with a 'blank slate'.

fair enough.

tho still, five-lugging a nissan hardbody is easy

tacoma or hilux or ford ranger rear axle, toyota hubs and conversion bearings, IIRC. (i dunno about ranger hubs)

tho, for the right money, i'll bet you can get minilites punched in a 6-bolt:
