Topic: Old Legend car??? Good car for Lemons

I have been thinking about a two car team. My problem is a small trailer and no money for a larger one. I only have about 11 feet to work with. I was walking around a junk yard last weekend pacing off smaller cars and figured I'd build something completely based on what would fit. Anyway I stumbled accross an old Legends car with I believe a Yamaha 1100cc engine, what looks like a toyota pick up diff. He said someone dumped it for scrap and it could be had for $400. Does anyone know anything about these. Would it be a rolling road block? The cage looks pretty serious but not sure if I'd be safe against a 67 galaxie. It seems to sit fairly low, do you think it would be a problem for other cars to see? Anyone have an opinion on these, safety wise, would Jay let it out there. I really don't care about penalty laps as we do it for fun. I would really like to drive a motorcycle powered car. I have tired for three years to convince my team a 4 motorcycle engine powered Subaru Brat would be perfect but they seem to think I'm an idiot. Let me know. Thanks

2.1: Vehicle Eligibility: Entry limited to mass-produced, four-wheeled vehicles legal for US highway use at the time of their manufacture.

I think this means no.  Pretty sure Jay doesn't want to open the door for purpose built race cars to become eligible.

So why not buy it and race in Legends races?

Ummmm...assuming it is near you in Atco NJ please let me know where it's at if you decide to pass.  As others have said it's ineligible for Lemons but I've wanted one to build an autocross car out of for some time now and that's just about the right price to get me to give it a shot.

Re: Old Legend car??? Good car for Lemons

Thanks kind of what I thought but figured that would be a heck of a lot of fun. I'm kicking the idea around buying it and doing something with it. I'll keep you informed. There are no Legends races near me so racing in the series is out. It's a autocross car in NJ. Of course it will get classed with go carts or the dreaded Lotus.

Re: Old Legend car??? Good car for Lemons

Haha, I'll have to keep my eye out for a CRX. I have just the team for sledge hammer body work.

There are no go-karts in NJ autocrosses (state law prohibits, I dont know why) and it's very rare a lotus shows up (been awhile since I've been to an SJR event so that may have changed) but either way it would be oodles of fun to play with.

I think they might run Legends out at New Egypt.

They race Legends at Summit Point with the vintage racing club.

At $400, if the motor runs it is worth it.

To run Legends you now have to run a sealed motor.

At $400, it is as cheap as many pit bikes.  Paddock transportation!

Just having fun.

I dunno, it looks like they ran F125s at the NJ pro solo in 2011 at the Meadowlands.  I don't autoX regularly in NJ so I don't know what's common.

exemptions can be gained but the norm is no karts.  Like I said I dont know the full details, just that I've wanted to run a kart for years and I know alot of people on the local SCCA board and they keep saying no can do.
