Topic: Garage/shop space, SW Houston

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but none of the guys on my team really have the space to store the car(s) and the parts that have yet to go in in our personal garage.

Where do you guys go to find shop space if you don't have it at home? Also, if there's anyone in a similar situation in the SW Houston area, have you found a decent place to rent space? Where are good places to check (indoor storage unit w/ electricity perhaps)?

No, I can't just leave it stock.

Re: Garage/shop space, SW Houston

I get exactly 1/2 of the two-car garage attached to our home.  The other half is bikes, wagons, strollers, etc.

In the winter, I get none of that.  My enclosed trailer comes in handy that time of year.  Both the wife and I get to park indoors.

It's a win-win situation.

Re: Garage/shop space, SW Houston

Even though I get all of my garage to myself, I have other things to do with it than take up both bays putting in a roll cage. Unfortunately, an enclosed trailer wouldn't even help me much as my HOA prohibits trailers from being in a driveway for more than 48 hours. So, even if I had one I would have to put it in storage. HOA rules also state that unless the car is registered and properly stickered/tagged to drive on the street I can't even put it in my driveway. Already fought that battle and lost.

We've looked around a bit in SW Houston but not seriously. Finding a place in a neighborhood where one doesn't feel the need for an armed convoy is the real problem.

I park my trailer at an excavating company about 2 blocks away for $75/month.

HOA's are the devil.

Re: Garage/shop space, SW Houston

Haha, yeah, you're not joking there. They were griping about the "non-running" vehicle in my driveway which I ignored until they sent me a letter. I charged the battery and drove the car to park it in my cousin's garage, so now we've got junky Fiero's occupying large portions of multiple garages.

(Anyone interested in teaming up for a "Dueling Fieros" theme?)

Re: Garage/shop space, SW Houston

I got a letter about a Corvette in my driveway that was legally registered. Just not in Texas. It had a rear plate and no windshield stickers but it was legally registered and insured. So I turned it around to show off it's backside.

My HOA is better than most but I piss them off a few times a year.

Re: Garage/shop space, SW Houston

Are you looking for a place to store and work or just storage?

For storage only we've used Fort Bend Boat and RV on 5th street in Stafford. You could do a little work out there but if you started spending regular hours out there you'd probably get kicked out...plus...the electrical availability with not be adequate for multiple power tools at the same time - totally sub-par for any type of welder.

Had been looking for a place to store and work, but I think the rest of my team is ready to give up for now, as no one has time to work.
