Hey, guys:

Consider this an exploratory effort into how LeMons and weekly racing might crossover.

I am a part-time dirt track racer and part-time LeMons racer.  I live in Elburn, IL; close to DeKalb, Geneva, Aurora, St. Charles, Batavia but not much else.

I'm looking for reliable, close-by help to work with me in the garage with the dirt track car.  A typical between-race service includes unloading the car, a car wash, pressure-washing the tires, going over the mechanicals with wrenches to make sure nothing has loosened, grinding tires, oil change, spark plug change, chassis lube...

If you're able to help out, I'd also invite you to ride down to the track (Fairbury Speedway) on a Saturday night when I'm racing.  (Next planned race is 6/16, then 6/30.)

In another year or two, I'm hoping to start building a LeMon car, too.  Though right now I'm content to do Arrive & Drives.  One of the big reasons I haven't more seriously considered my own LeMons car is the lack of similarly minded individuals.  I can't scrape up a reliable garage buddy out where I live, let alone three other guys with time, money and talent to run a LeMons race.

I'll be working in the garage tomorrow morning, then heading down to Autobahn with my son to take in a couple hours of LeMons racing.  Next Wednesday evening I'm planning on washing the dirt car then Saturday morning, the 16th, I'll grind the four tires I'm going to run that night.

There's beer in the garage fridge and classic/alternative rock on the garage stereo.

There's a handful from the dirt racing world, too - one guy in Joliet, another down in Central Illinois - who are keeping track of LeMons and interested in getting their feet wet.

Oh, and FYI - planning to unload the dirt car tonight, wash it Sunday and go over the nuts and bolts next Wednesday and Thursday evening.  Racing on the 21st.

Well... I've gone off the deep end.  Had a conversation last night with my wife called, "What if I park the dirt car for 2013 in order to build my LeMons car?"

Any interested parties?  Forecasting a second-half 2013 entry.

Not yet... But I have found the hidden reserve of 'crazy' deep within my psyche that is needed in order to pull the trigger.

You may have seen my other thread called something like "Craiglist search tips".  I'm well on my way.  You and your teammates have posted some pretty good Chicago-area finds in the For Sale section.  So I'll keep a look-out there, too!

I know you wanted a pickup, so I would look for an old 5speed s10 with the v6 which seem to come up pretty often and cheap.  The 2.8 in there isn't the most powerful engine but its the 60degree v6 that they just stopped making last year, so you should be able to get an engine that will bolt right up with twice the hp fairly cheap(obsolete says there is a yard you can pick them up for $150), and I think the rear end is the same from the v6 camaro's and firebirds.  Plus atleast 3 have won ioe so a good shot at losing less money with it.

I recently pulled the engine out of my Rabbit. Chinese turbo manifold came last week (not sure if im actually gonna turbo)

Will be prepping the Civic for autobahn at my house in Aurora this weekend... we actually still need at least 1 driver.

So, most of you know I picked up a new LeMon in October.  I've gutted the interior about 95% of the way.  And I'm pulling the motor right now to fix a broken mount.

I'm looking for drivers for August through December of 2013 - right now that's just the November race at Road America.  But if they drop another Autobahn in there, I'll definitely be trying to go to that one, too.

Specifically, this weekend I'm going to drive up to Northstar Motorsports in Lake Barrington, IL to check out some seats.  I could use some drivers of varying height, length and width to assist in determining which seat will work for the right variety of copilots.  Even if you have your own car and aren't interested in driving mine, if you have the time I could use the help.  Plus, what's not to love about an early Saturday trip to a motorsports store?

Any of you want to go to Northstar early Saturday?  I can bring donuts.
