Topic: The other race in France...

Watching the LeMans in France today on TV.   My daughter asked, "Daddy why aren't you racing at that race"?

Because it Fathers Day weekend and I prefer to spend my time w/ you.

Lucky for those guys, Daddy.

You-betcha Annie.

We shared Guinness, bacon and OJ and are watching the race.

Holy crap!!!!  That was a scary crash between that Ferrari and Prototype.

What is that car that looks like it is really narrow up front?

Delta wing down  sad.  Bad driving by LMP driver.

That crash looks like it lost the race for Toyota, shame they don't really seem to be giving any information on the deltawing.

Similar story here - I wouldn't have known that it was Le Mans weekend if it weren't for the Lemons Forums!  Thanks to them I pulled up one or two of the live feeds and had one girl sitting on either side of me watching the in-car cameras.

Among the questions (such as, from my 3-year old, "why are the cars driving so curvy?") was:

"Daddy, will your car be in that race?"

which made me laugh because it's pretty unlikely that they'd have a class for the Lemonlimo at Le Mans!

However, it wasn't a silly question in the end: I will be at that race - it'll be at BW, but still it'll be in a car, and go for 24 hours, and so we'll be sitting in the same seats as those guys driving right now in France.

Those guys won't have to deal with 150+ cars on the track at once, though . . . they have it easy!

To me, it looked like the Toyotas were running at 10/10ths for the duration that they were in the race while the Audis ran a more reasonable race pace and it was pretty even. I'll be very interested to see how the Toyotas do at the six-hour races, though. That crash with the Ferrari was horrifying, though.

Also, how awesome was it to see Dumas ripping the bodywork off the car to be able to get it back to the pits afer he put it in the tires?

We were in Monte Carlo last month, a week before the F1 race there, so got to walk on the street/track a bit... no cars in town yet (that we saw). but I did get a new appreciation for taking the turns at those speeds. Also for going in/out of dark/light in the tunnel...
