I never heard what let go there, but I suspect it was one of their glowing-cheatonium bits.

Epic pile-up opportunity missed

Oh man, I had no idea this happened right behind me. I passed the Porsche on the back straight half a lap before this and am pretty glad I did. The black RX-7 was pretty lucky, as were you. Glad you're OK, but yeah, not being able to get it started for those first few seconds must have been major pucker factor.

I spun in my own spilled oil in turn 9, and had a similar pants wetting episode of being stalled in the racing line. I think because of the low number of cars, and the high percentage of veteran teams, combined for some real heads-up driving.
Touche'
That's my story and I'm sticking to it
Yes he did what every German car owner does and has to do when the car stalls, turn the key all the back and then start. Unfortunately that key is worn down and the ignition sticks so you kinda have to get it just right if you turn it all the way back. Its a Japanese car so as long as the clutch is in just click forward to start. I wondered why he did that and then i remembered he has a German car so habit.
I saw the smoke from the pits and ran to see what happened then as i cleared our trailer i saw our car facing the wrong way. glad no contact or off track he did a good job.

Super cheaty go fast oil filter. Well at least it wasn't a rod escaping
I found the video. Scary! We're the 3rd car to the scene, but everybody is on top of each other. You couldn't see the stopped Sheen Machine until after the bend. Amazing heads up driving from the Escort Service, Swiss Racing and Andrey in our car. That could have been ugly.

Notice in all these videos, the guys have their visors full open.

I didn't know that was a thing that happened, but then again, Lemons Porsche.

I've never seen an exploded filter, but I have seen one with a blown gasket, and I've seen more than one come loose. We put a hose clamp around our oil filter and safety wire it tight, just to be safe.
bs
Holy balls, that was lucky! Glad the rest of the field was paying attention--we weren't so lucky when we spun and stalled out on track with our first car.
Also, what kind of gott dang filter just asploded like that?
That Porsche had an accumulator, big oil cooler, remote oil filter, and oil lines going every which way under the hood. The oil dump could have come from any number of sources.
Fram HP1 filter Crimp failed

There was only a Remote filter , oil accumulator NO oil cooler in the system.
Fram HP1 filter Crimp failed
One more reason to add to the list of reasons I never buy Fram oil filters.

Agreed! He also did a great job avoiding the flag station on the left. That could have been a very hard impact if he hadn't. Props.
