you'd think so, but the fail state for the N75 (what VAG calls the WG solenoid) is bypass, and no MAF = open loop operation, assuming the MAP is working (I should check that).

it gets worse:
for its debut (RoadAmerica 2013) and first race this season (GMan), I had the auxiliary waterpump harness connector plugged into the IAT sensor- so I was (a) sending 12V to ECM ground and (b) not having the benefit of IAT measurement. (remember PV=nRT? I was missing V & T...)

fun doesn't stop there:
between GMan and Autobahn, I also discovered the blowoff valve had a torn diaphragm. this in and of itself isn't so bad- until you realize the vac reference line used by the BOV is shared with MAP, FPR, and your diff locks. Cross "P" off the list, too.

tl;dr
how has this thing not blown up yet?

Re: Who is in, Gingerman 2 14'

(Taken at Gingerman this April) - how could this NOT work perfectly?  Took some serious brain-power to make it work as well as it does (did).   Was the dashboard added for Autobahn?

Electricity is black-magic as far as I'm concerned, and the team-mate who wired my car lives 1500 miles away now.

We were about 5 seconds per lap off the pace that we set last year at Autobahn.

You might enjoy my most recent discoveries in the ongoing investigation as to why the Quantum doesn't dominate quite as much as it should:

During practice day at Autobahn, the front passengers side engine wiring harness got a little hot. It appeared as though only the outer sheathing had melted, leaving the wires within intact- presumably. Post race dissection indicated to the contrary- the MAF and wastegate solenoid wires (9 in total) were more or less shorted to one another (and possibly the headlights as well). Despite this, the car ran OK-ish for the race (low/medium levels of boost, didn't blow up).

I finally wired up a couple gauges (tach and boost-- we've never had any) to continue troubleshooting the above problem...

In passing, I had wondered about the ECU's ability to self regulate (aka a "REV LIMITER")-- but had never given it much thought, as it appeared to work kinda how a rev limiter should (which, in retrospect, is difficult to asses by sound alone). Definitely not the case: our only rev limiter for the past 3 races has been the laws of physics.

With the tach 'upgrade', I was somewhat unnerved by the ease that the gauge would absolutely fucking bury the tach needle.
http://12v.org/urs/IMG_0094.JPG

I can easily wrap the needle around to 0 RPM. I'm guessing the car has seen several hours above 8500 RPM.

Damn you deceptively short gearing....

I've got a crew member who works at a shop in West Chicago if you want someone to take a look at it for relatively cheap.  He's not a carb guy, so he can't help us fix our stumbling and starvation issues.  But he might be able to help you with yours. smile

And, oh... The Run EXP will be back in black at Gingerman.  Now that we're not confronted by challenges of wiring up headlights, apex lights and auxiliary tail lights - not to mention the LED graphic equalizers - maybe we'll get some time to upgrade the suspension.  And track down our fuel starvation on hard right corners.

Just add a dual carb setup. More carbs=more fuel, right? smile

Re: Who is in, Gingerman 2 14'

Wierd offer but I am picking up two BFG Rivals for me and 4 for the team I am currently assisting at Tire Rack on Thursday morning before the race.  I have a Volvo wagon with a SPACIOUS roof rack.  Anyone else want to either drop wheels at my place in Hammond, IN for the same treatment (cash due at the track) or save the shipping on bare tires and just have me pick up your order?

I will be storming the Gingerman gates Thursday evening because I like the mini pre-party so your tires will be there early hanging out with Wally-the-not-so-wonderdog.Consider me the tire fairy...but not in gay way...not that there is anything wrong with that.

I'm seeing over 80 cars registered, using the count the missing numbers method.  Whether or not they all show up is a different story...

So it looks like our test and tune day will follow a similar format to the Spring race:

http://gingerman.mycustomevent.com/Shop … roductlist

Anyone contacted Gingerman yet for the details on cost for extra drivers, etc?  I seem to remember last time the single fee covered more than one driver but not the whole team.

Re: Who is in, Gingerman 2 14'

We signed up the same as the spring.  They just have you put the wrist band around the roll cage to let you on the track.  I dare say it's easy to determine if a car is a lemon or not.
