Re: Counting your chickens early: Autobahn 24-hour race in July

I get three 14 hour races on our front pads, and have 14 hours on the current set, so I think we'll try to make it with what's on the car now.  We're gonna have four new tires for the race, we'll at a minimum have to rotate, and we'll bring four extra tires with 1/3 life left on them just in case.

We have no clue but we do plan to rotate F-R on tires before sunset just because.

Re: Counting your chickens early: Autobahn 24-hour race in July

We can usually get about 5 or 6 hours on an engine before we have to replace it.

...this race is going to be expensive!

You guys change engines pretty fast but have you given any thought to having a complete front subframe with engine and trans ready to go?

Yes.

Yes we have.

After much discussion, we decided that building a better car would be a better direction to aim our efforts.

You quit you just prove that all those horrible horrible things Judge Phil said about your car is true, you can't have that now can you.

Re: Counting your chickens early: Autobahn 24-hour race in July

Just swap in an engine that is too large for your car.  Make one-off parts to do it.  Make it so you can't swap out an engine at the track.  Problem solved!

All told we had a little over $100 in extra parts into our identical sub frames.  Realistically we could swap them in 1 hour if we wanted.

Does anyone think they can do the full 24 on one set of tires and one set of brake pads?

Re: Counting your chickens early: Autobahn 24-hour race in July

I'm bringing two full sets of tires and I'll start with a new set of Porterfield R4 pads.  I think the pads will make it the entire way but we'll be swapping tires for sure.  Rotors were new at Gingerman but I'll bring the old ones too.

Is this track hard on tires & brakes?

It Ain't My Fault

Re: Counting your chickens early: Autobahn 24-hour race in July

I don't think it's any worse than any other track.  I just know that we'll eat at least a set of fronts in the first 12-14 hours.  I never get more than 14 hours out of a set of fronts.  I'm not worried about pads or rotors.

Re: Counting your chickens early: Autobahn 24-hour race in July

Has anyone heard anything about black flag rules?  If the team black flag count resets every day at a normal split race, does that mean we don't get a reset during this race because it's continuous?

From what I recall from previous 24 hour races, black flags get reset every 12 hours or something.

Fourteen time loser. You'd think I'd know better by now.

There are only a couple of corners that are hard on brakes and plenty of time for them to cool off between. Turn 1/2 can be hard on the left front tire if you really push hard but otherwise its not bad.

Originally, I wasn't going to be at this race, but now I'm going. There had better be some good new cars coming!

Not as much as the south track being hard as the north track being incredibly easy on brakes.  You really probably only need to use the brakes like twice a lap on the north track.
