Re: Subframe Engineering - Y'all know more than I do.

The pre GM era Saab 900 (78-93) and first gen Chrysler J body (Stratus, Cirrus, and Breeze) were FWD cars with double wishbone front suspensions. Perhaps one of these could work?

Fourteen time loser. You'd think I'd know better by now.

Re: Subframe Engineering - Y'all know more than I do.

I believe the adapter is for using a Ford Mustang strut front end in a Cobra replica. A friend was recommending using the adapters and a free pair of spindles he had instead of using Mustang II spindles on my Sunbeam.

BTW, I'm still looking for a Mustang II front suspension if anyone's willing to sell cheap.

Re: Subframe Engineering - Y'all know more than I do.

If you draw a line through the 2 ball joints on the spindle side you want them to be close to the center of the tire where it touches the road. Search kingpin inclination for more on this if it's new to you. The other thing is the steering rack may need to be shortened to help minimize/ eliminate bump steer. There are how to threads for miata racks and some others on how to do this. You may find one close enough to yours to reference if you don't want to switch racks.

I'm not seeing a bushing working up top because it will bind when steered. You probably need a ball joint there and need to make sure it doesn't bind as it goes through full suspension travel at all allowable steering angles so you don't blow that ball joint apart while driving. You can watch for axle plungeinto the cv joints and axle to chassis clearance issues at the same time.

Re: Subframe Engineering - Y'all know more than I do.

I solved the hub carrier problem. It was a lot easier than I expected, actually. Turns out the OD on Austin ADO16 wheels bearings is the same as Metros. So I pressed the Metro bearing into the ADO16 hub carrier, and then mounted the Metro hub onto the ADO16 carrier.

I've started making the subframe, and have the engine mounts done.

So now just to make some control arms...
