Topic: Air brake
Had an idea... Has anyone tried to do an air brake wing? Seems like it would be simple to do and possibly save brake ware on heavier cars.

GI José has an "air brake" here in the SE. The trunk has actuators so it opens when they brake.
The best air brake uses a bowling ball in the trunk.
seems like it would be pretty easy* to rig up some combination of cables/levers/pushrods to the rear suspension, so that when the car pitches forward under braking, it would increase the angle of attack on a wing, or raise a spoiler or something.
*actually incredibly tedious and time consuming
Was thinking electric or hydraulic cylinder attached to the braking system

Re-purpose the power steering pump for the hydraulic system!
Or... Just tie into the brake line
Talk to the Team Sensory Assault guys. They had a huge antler airbrake setup for the 2011 year ender in Texas.

Skid Marks made a dual purpose wing/airbrake on the back of their Neon that seemed to work pretty well.
Eyesore had an air brake for a while.

We've seen a half-dozen versions of this idea. None have made the cars any faster, but they look cool.

We did this on our Milano for a number of races back east. It looked great in the garage, and going through tech. Ours was pushrod actuated through the rear suspension, so when the rear lifted the roofline mounted wings lifted. In the garage, it was all very fluid and nice looking. On the track, with the chattering of the suspension, the damn wings chattered around like crazy.
It made no difference whatsoever in the braking.
bs
Just drill a hole in the brake pedal arm. Rig a steel cable and some pulleys so that when the brake pedal is pressed it makes the wing scoop more air. Is is also a marginal back up for when your brakes fail. Obviously brilliant.

Giant pointless wings always make things cooler, ones with flaps, even better

Was thinking a lot more surface area...

Hey, I was quite envious of the Sensory Assault air brake when we were racing in the rain. Braking power that doesn't rely on your tire friction!
One of the Texas teams with a Fox-body Mustang had a big air brake too... perhaps Formula M(ullet)?
Schumacher Taxi Service had this on the Craptation, made of toilet seats, it was awesome.....

You mean like this:
Not quite... Lol
