Topic: In-tank fuel pump wiring

So I'm swapping from a high pressure in-tank pump to a low pressure one, which is physically shorter. The wires built into the hanger now won't be long enough. Since the original wiring is riveted into the top of the hanger, I was planning on just soldering on an extension.

Do I have to track down some wire spec'd for fuel submersion? Do the splices need some special type of insulation prevent arc-ing? Is this all just a stupid idea?

Thanks all.

Im a automotive technician, mechanic, for a profession. HAHAHa Im just happy I can spell that hahaha
I have never used any special wire to replace or legthen wires for fuel pumps.  I do perfer to solder those connections so you dont have to worry about them working loose or pulling out, but I HAVE used "butt" connectors as well.I have replaced more fuel pumps than I could possibly remember.

Re: In-tank fuel pump wiring

When we did our in-tank pump setup, i wasn't sure either.   I played it safe, and got chemical-resistant (teflon-insulated) wires.   I soldered connections.     I also got special fuel-resistant heat shrink tubing.

I got them both from Mcmaster.   Not terribly expensive.   I'm sure there are plenty of other places to get them

The fuel-resistant heat shrink doesn't specifically list gasoline, but we've had ours submerged for at least 2 years, and last time we removed the pump, it's holding up just fine (pump gas)
