Topic: Racing Seat Blivit - 1 size fits all??

Need advise - smallest driver on our team 155lbs - biggest pushing 250 on a good day - Big guy advised small guy to get racing shoe platform shoes - little guy advised big guy to get bilateral amputations and drive with his knee stumps - Planning to use Kirkey seat from Jegs - they advise NOT using slider but may be needed - also if using slider what is the best solution for the rear brace to make it quickly adjustable -
any advise or comments welcome including thoughts on the Kirkey seats or using extra pads or bolsters with a fixed seat mount

Back-up and give us more info.  Leg, from hip to ankle bone is the important measurement.  If they are +- 3" you pick the middle ground and short guy tip-toe's the throttle and clutch ( unless you have manual brakes, that is rarely an issue).  Side pads ( just High Density foam preferably wrapped in fire retardant cotton...but not normally) make the small guy fit the wide-guy seat you install.

I use the kirkey intermediate seat with a summit seat slider Sum-G1153  you will need short driver to get seat insert .

Do not use a circle track seat with rib supports.  We did that for the first two races because it fit me perfectly, and I was the widest guy on the team.  The narrower drivers complained because they were hitting their elbows on the rib supports.

We have a Mustang and were able to modify the factory sliders to work with the Kirkey seat.

The back supports that Evil John or I/O Port sell are easy to install and just as easy to use.

Make or buy something like this for the back brace:

We installed that along with sliders under our Kirkey seat three years ago, as our drivers range from 5'9" to 6'4".
Luckily, the height difference appears to be entirely in the torso and we've never moved our seat slider.

Don't just build for he range of drivers you have today. Teams change over time it's good to be adjustable to accommodate as large range of drivers as possible. Sliders are good and should be angled down at the back so the short drivers get some elevation when they move the seat forward. Also look at getting a quick release steering wheel as you can get different steering wheels to be closer or further from the driver.

Pshaw.  We just tell our drivers they have to be 5'6" to 6'2".  It is like the "You have to be this tall to ride" signs at amusement parks.

I think 155 lbs to 250 lbs about covers most of the drivers (men and a large percentage of women) who will be driving the car. Build it to fit 5'4 ot 6'4" and you be in excellent position to have anyone drive the car.

At Sears point one year we had 2 arrive and drive racers.. April is about 5'3, John is 6'9". Our seat is not on sliders and we made it work with padding for April. Luckily John's height is mostly torso, and our car is roomy, so he was able to fit his legs in.
