Re: Professionals in Lemons

Define "professional driver".

Someone who has at some point been paid to drive a car (race car)?

Someone who drives like a "professional"?

Someone who thinks they should be paid to drive a car?

Someone with enough money to buy a ride in a professional race?

A professional who drives a race car?

If you mean they didn't try very hard... 'tis true. I was disappointed. Made me question the whole concept of "reality" shows. They seemed so real... to me.

Could have been worse, they could have shown up with their feet up their ass like The Car Show with Adam Carola did.

He is a funny guy.  He used to do bits on the Kevin & Bean KROQ morning show.  His Mr Burcham routine was fantastic.  Jimmy Kimmel was the KROQ sports guy and they both left KROQ to do The Man Show and then on to other things.  For whatever reason, his TV stuff falls flat.

IIRC, Leh Keen raced in the Superkak Mustang--which got cursed, didn't it?

FWIW, I asked Rutledge about that Lemons appearance when he showed up in Austin. Apparently "Stig" was sent out in a pretty broken car. (Next question: why wasn't he in the car earlier? Put your reliable guys in first, sheesh. Stig should've told you th--oh. Never mind.)

Re: Professionals in Lemons

When we ran the Lamest Day 24 at Nelson Ledges in 2009 we later found out that the winning team was a Grand Am Team that was having some fun in Lemons. They were very well equipped with Communications gear, spotters and really had the whole darkness thing figured out.

I don't remember who they were though.

We managed a 9th place position out of 122 cars with the Alfa after plugging all our filters with contaminated track side fuel. They were dispensing it from a rusty steel tank on a trailer- what could possibly go wrong with that?

That was a great race despite the shite weather.

Same, can't nail it down. Not sure who was around Riley and Baron in 2010; I don't think Starworks was even a thing, really, then.

Re: Professionals in Lemons

Marc Miller drove down from Holland, Michigan, for a bit of the race on Saturday. He brought his gear with him, so I put him in a miscreants' Neon, introducting him as "my buddy Marc who's never raced in Lemons before." They figured it out pretty quickly when his first flying lap was 0.6 second quicker than any of them had driven all day. Over the next 20 minutes, he chopped another four seconds out of their best time and came in saying there was at least another second in it without nuking the brakes or tires (and quite a bit more if you wanted to beat on those). They were pretty good sports about it and pretty excited to have a Le Mans driver in their car, even though they had no idea who he was beforehand.

That team has also been lobbying Steve and I to put them in Class B, so immediately after Marc exited the car they foolishly wagered that Steve wouldn't go quicker than a 2:00 (Their best had been a 1:58.6) in six laps. If he didn't, they'd get Class B. If he did, they would permanently be in Class A.

It took Steve two laps to run a 1:59.0.

HOLY MOTHER OF CRAPBALLS IS THAT A SLICK-ROOF 944? NO SUNROOF?!

{ BRAIN ASPLODE }

Edit: Wait, no. I see gaps in there. They've just got a less obvious sunroof panel mount.

I hate 944 sunroofs. I hate every single stupid thing about them.

All sun/moon roofs were put there by the devil under the guise of resale value.
