Topic: hood question

I was once again perusing the rules yesterday, I see it is mandatory to retain the hood. Can the hood have non factory " vents " cut into it?

Re: hood question

Lots of non-factory hood modifications running around.  But i suspect that it must still cover the most of the engine bay.

Re: hood question

Fair warning:
When I first had to clearance my hood to fit an intake originally designed for a minivan, I cut the center section of my roof and raised it up 3" to clear the intake/IACV valve.  the raised section was supported with metal bars and I filled the sides with scrap sheet metal.

The problem was that my shortest driver (we'll refer to him as stumpy here), couldn't see above the center 3" lifted section when he crested a hill. Therefore, when I lowered the engine, I also spent time redoing the hood to make the max raised point only 1.5" above stock.

Bottom Line: Save yourself addt'l effort and make sure that whatever hood mod you make will NOT prevent your shortest driver from seeing over the hood when he/she crests a hill (esp into a right hand turn).

Re: hood question

The Faster Farms car is an example of abundance in ventage (what looks like a scoop is actually a vent). Heat bad - vents good.

A note - if you start cutting into the strengthening ribs, you need to install hood pins because you will now have a floppy hood which will lift up at the front corners.

Re: hood question

Ventilation is not a problem; just keep most of the hood intact and adequately restrained against the forces of the almighty aero and you will be fine.

Thanks for the reminder! There's ANOTHER cat that looks identical to yours in a so-snooty art gallery in Scottsdale. I gotta go over and find out how much they want for it! Haven't decided if the right approach is to pretend I'm serious, or play it like some deranged Belushi character.
