Topic: Updating existing cage

Hey all,
Wanted your opinion on planned updates to our rollcage before we trundle down to Alabama this weekend.

Quick backstory: we acquired a car that WAS actively raced in Lemons, but hasn't seen track time in 4+ seasons. (Told you it was quick)

In reviewing the 'How Not to Fail Lemons Tech' PDF, we noticed that the rule for intrusion bars calls for a pair of bars that are either parallel or in an X pattern.  But they must be a min of 7.5" apart at the ends.

The car we acquired has a single intrusion bar running diagonal on the passenger side.  We've developed a plan to update the cage to current rules, but the updates will be somewhat unconventional.

See pics below for planned updates-

Re: Updating existing cage

That should work, although you should email those pics to John Pagel. (pagel at 24hoursoflemons dot com) We originally ran X-bars that were slightly "cocked" like that, but not quite as far. IIRC, Evil John told us to make sure the 2-piece crossbar is as close to co-linear as possible.

*edit* wrong thread, sorry

Re: Updating existing cage

I prefer the x-bars to be cocked off like that. The bars provide more intrusion protection where the driver/passenger actually is, while making egress easier due to the lower front bar.

Carry on.
