Topic: cage pictures need help

Here are some pics of our cage, it is not finish welded. We were hoping to see if anyone sees any issues we need to resolve, hopefully we can get some response from Evil Genius, or Judge Phil. Thanks in advance again guys.

URL doesn't work, even when copied into a browser. Also, for URLs, you don't need to tag them to make them hotlinks - they will be tagged automatically when posted.

Re: cage pictures need help

Make sure you can weld completely around those top joints on the cage. Looks like you already tacked in the spreader plates, so little chance of dropping the cage through the floor.

Cage looks ok in general. Make sure your driver door bars are far enough apart per the rules. And I might make the passenger door bars a little shorter to make it easier to get someone into that side of the car to help strap drivers in. The rear downbars I might have placed a little further up on the main hoop, so that you had one big node coming together with the diagonal, forward, and rear down bars.

as always, comments here do not mean crap when it comes to tech inspection. Go through Jay or Pagel for final judgement.

Re: cage pictures need help

I'd say it looks OK in general as well, but the back stay angle seems flat to me, but will probably pass.  Be sure you install the seat before you finish the harness bar or you may have to move it or add a bar.

Re: cage pictures need help

I have  a few suggestions.
One would be to add some metal to the footing plates in a vertical plane on the rockers. This ties the footings into the car better then just to the floor which is just thin sheet metal.

Also since you have already tack welded the footings to the floor you can drill holes in the front ones using a hole saw to allow the front down tubes to drop down through them. This makes is easier to do a full 360 degree weld on the tube to halo bar junction. You can then just add a plate over the hole and weld that in and than the down tube to it.

And was mentioned raise the point of the rear braces  a couple of inches so all the tubes intersect at the same point.

Last I would extend the harness bar all the way across the car to the right side main tube and then tie the tube to the "B" pillars  with some flat plate.

Otherwise it looks good.

Re: cage pictures need help

It looks good as others have said pull the front spreed plate and cut a hole to drop the front cage so you can weld it all up. Tech will run his  finger all those welds like a school boys first date !!! If he finds any space your  all done and you will not hit the track.

Re: cage pictures need help

Like everyone else said, as long as you can get the weld all around those top joints they should be fine. I'm not too comfortable with the location of where the back stays hit the main hoop. I would have pushed it up higher to be at the same elevation as where the halo hits the main hoop. It might pass as is though.
