Topic: Buying a car

I've noticed you can buy old race cars on here for 1500-2500. If your allowed 500 to purchase the car how does this work.. I know the safety equipment isn't included in the purchase price of the car per rules but what do you need from the seller or better just to build your own?

Re: Buying a car

Get an itemized bill of sale stating the car price and then the safety features price.

typically the seller will sell the car for $500 and the "safety gear" for $XXXX

"get up and get your grandma outta here"

Re: Buying a car

Or e-mail the judges and ask what the residual value of the car you are buying is.  They typically know the cars and know that a prepped car is worth more than $500.

You want to buy my car.  Lemons legal and will pass tech in May to prove it for 2017.  No hassle at all by the judges about pricing and placed in C class last race.

I like how you have to click through to learn it is a Jaguar. A perfectly reliable and quality motor vehicle with no drawbacks at all, none, nope, none at all. However, that does make it the perfect LeMon.

LOL, you would actually be surprised to learn that it has proven to be one of our more reliable cars.  We've only had it out for one race so for but it went for 13.5 of the 14.5 hours and finished.  It's hiccup was of course an electrical issue with the dash becoming loose.  We have built a new bracket for it so that issue should be resolved.  May NJMP will be it's next test.

Compared to our F-Body, which is yet to complete a full day of racing in 3 races with it has proven to be much less reliable.

Re: Buying a car

Or just lie. The more outrageous the lie, the better. A good story is always better than the boring truth. A large binder stuffed with crudely faked receipts is good. Lots of completely irrelevant pictures also helps, along with spreadsheets with lots of numbers. Maybe include a celebrity as well, like this used to be Pia Zadora's Ford Escort. They are going to look at the car and make up their own minds anyway, so it's not like a bunch of justification is going to let you bring a BMW Z3 and get away with no penalty laps. Oh, wait, never mind, but still, lie often and lie big.

Everybody grab your brooms, it's shenanigans!

If Lemons has shown anything, it's that what are normally considered to be "reliable" street cars break down frequently, while supposedly "unreliable" cars can do quite well.

Jaguars, Alfa Romeos, and Chryslers make excellent Lemons cars.
