Topic: WTB 89-97 Ford Thunderbird or Cougar 7.5 diff and axles

I started looking around for a 7.5 diff preferably with 3.27 and the limited slip on craigslist and local junk yards.  I thought I would ask on here too, I need the diff and axles.  I'm in Lemont IL

I suspect what you are looking for is a very rare combination as most tbirds came with the 8.8" rear end vs. the 7.5"
The 7.5 only came with the N/A V6 tbirds IIRC and i'm not sure if the LSD (Traction Lock) was even an option on those base models.

Your best bet is to look underneath the 3.8SC as most all of them came with 8.8" diffs and  TL units inside.
I think the automatic SCs came with 3.08 or 3.27 gears but even if you find one with 2.73 gears from a manual SC, 8.8" gears are cheap from mustang owners looking for "moar gear."

PS. If you do find that manual SC at the JY, grab the pedal assembly and throw it on eBay.

Re: WTB 89-97 Ford Thunderbird or Cougar 7.5 diff and axles

FWIW, apparently you can take an LSD from an 8.8 unit and it will bolt straight into a Lincoln LS 8.0 carrier as long as you bolt the 8.0 R&P to the 8.8 LSD.  Axle splines and everything are the same.  No clue if any of that is useful but throwing it out there.

Just another note, the 7.5" and 8.8" axles are the same, at least for the solid rear Fox bodies.
