Topic: Help Wanted

Hi all. The time has come, we need to get the Wartburg body back on this frankenchassis we built. Now it came off pretty easy with 3 people but mounting and fitting day is going to be on and off a few times so we'd like to have as much help as possible. The body is stripped down to just the shell so I've done my best to keep it manageable but there's going to be alot of fitting, cutting, measuring and trial so I expect it will be good to have as many extra able bodies as possible.

We are shooting for the weekend of March 20th. Saturday the 20th to be specific but if that doesnt work for you and the 21st does there may be need for a 2nd day of help.

Location is Mullica Hill, NJ (southern part of the state)

If you have any desire to be a part of this insane build this is when we need you the most. We will provide refreshements, lunch, asprin, etc. Feel free to bring friends. If we have TOO many people I'll be happy to have help laying up some fiberglass that day too. We cannot have too much help this day.

Come be a part of the insanity and help us get this car done!

Re: Help Wanted

I would love to come down to help out.  I'm handy with hammers/prybars/fists and will bring a plasma cutter if you have 220VAC and compressed air available.  My experience mounting tires with gasoline and driving F100s with no brakes will probably not come in handy but you never know.

Hmmm, this is a dillemma,  The plasma cutter would come in handy and I have 220 and air but the 220 powers the air.

But really we mostly just need help lifting the body off and on a bunch of times while we measure and cut, I should have a majority of the major cuts done beforehand but Im sure there will be some fitting to be done.

Re: Help Wanted

This sounds like a fun day, and a great opportunity to learn.  I know exactly nothing about fiberglass; it would be fun to have a go.  Unfortunately, I have the work schedule from hell and I'm in Texas.

Not very useful.

Good luck!

I'm the doctor who is a wife. Which makes the grease hard to explain to my patients... www.tetanusneon.com.

You know just a little bit less than me then.  I just make it up as I go along.
Texas would be quite a Trek for just a workday though smile

If there are locals who are interested in the fiberglass "process" there will probably be more of that happening sunday rather than saturday, unless the body fitment just goes perfect and quick....yeah right.

I did write a little tutorial with photos back when I built the Yugo if you are interested in how I make some of this stuff.

The plasma does not use much air so a 110VAC compressor will do if you have one.  The Duct Tape/TeamDFL shop has 220 air and I don't have a functioning 110 unit.  As the day approaches, I bet we can find a loaner.

I didnt think about that, I do still have my wheezy little 110 compressor sitting in the corner.

And of course some 220 compressors can be easily switched to 110 (moving 3 wires does it on our teammate's Sears unit), but you do have to swap the cord & plug.

Re: Help Wanted

I checked the plasma last night.  It has a 3 prong twist lock rated for 30A at 230VAC.  If you have a different style of outlet, let me know and I'll see if I can find a plug at the shop.

I think that's what I have but I'll check it tonight to make sure.
