Topic: Got a v8 rx7 for $900 bucks!

Already had a rebuilt 350 and 5spd trans installed with a few race parts.. it needs a few things to be driveable but such a good deal i couldnt pass it up..

since this car has an open diff and smells like mouse poop (prolly cause it was full of it)

I may just drop the chevy stuff in my 83 but thought id share and post a few pics.. will be doing a build and video series for the website too..

I can hear the chant starting even now, albeit at a low roar, more like a whisper, but the torches are waiting to be lit: curse, curse, curse, curse... smile

An overpowered, nose-heavy car with a fragile front suspension and an engine that overheats and/or blows up 75% of the time at Lemons races? That's not Curse material, that's Heroic Fix and/or I Got Screwed!

Re: Got a v8 rx7 for $900 bucks!

I don't see $400 worth of parts to be sold off that car...  If it had the glass sunroof you could get about $100 for it.

What's mouse poop worth these days?

thanks freerange for the image post...

ill clarify this car isnt going to be in Lemons (that why i posted in this section) ive been building a ford powered one for awhile and now i have a chevy one.. although since my other car is much nicer body wise and doesnt stink this drive train will prolly get dropped in there..

just thought id share the cheap find.. although now you guys have me wondering if i could use it as a Lemons racer haha..

Re: Got a v8 rx7 for $900 bucks!

I think I would go with the Wankel rotary engine over the V-8 in the Mazda.
I had an 84 with a rev limit like 9000 rpm or something close to that.
With less shifting between revs, and less weight from the engine size in the corners the car handled great.  If you could get the GSL-SE it came with 4 wheel discs and limited slip. The only set- back is your horsepower was rated at 135hp at 6000 rpm so you would have to keep the rpms pretty high but a really fun ride as I remember. (God I am Old)
Still I would love to see the V-8 handle the corners. smile

Re: Got a v8 rx7 for $900 bucks!

still a fan of the rotaries this is my 3rd first gen car ive owned... after my last apex seal blew i just decided i wanted somthing different..

You'd be surprised how well these cars handle with v8's in them.. all the weight is still behind the front axle line (even uses mounts based off the stock location) having lots of power and a ton more torque is pretty fun..

If i did do a Lemons car it would prolly stay rotary.. ive got to put a new valve cover gasket, different header, and fix some issues with the clutch slave ill post up video once i get it on the road again..

Totally NOT the point!

V8 rx7 would be an AWESOME Lemons car smile

You know... Aluminum 5.3L chevies can be sourced for around $500... less if the junkyard doesn't know what they have. Those weigh about as much as a rotary and can easily put down a decent amount of power.
