Car: 91 Ford Escort LX [Chassis]
Engine: 2.0L Zetec [from '98 ZX2]
Course: Autobahn South
GPH: about 4-6, depending on driver; we figure 5 for budgeting
Capacity: 12 Gal
Best endurance: 90 minutes so far, but 2 hours in theory
Notes: Haven't had the car run a full stint without breaking or driver getting tired/overheated. Won't go lower than 1-2 gallons in the tank to avoid any potential fuel pickup issues. The drivers who used gears 2-4 burned a little more gas than those who just used 3-4.

GPM: 7.5

is that gallons per minute or mile?  either way i think we could measure our firebird as that

12 gallons got us 50mins at njmp - about 0.18 gallons/mile or 0.24 gallons/minute

Car: Mercury Bobcat
Engine: 2.3 SOHC, bone stock with Holley 2bbl
Course: MAM short course
GPH: 3.5-4 estimated
Capacity: 22 gal
Best endurance: Unknown with our new setup.  With the 12 gal cell we could go 90 minutes before fuel starvation.
Notes: Average age of our 4 man team is 56.5 years old so none of us care to drive longer than 2 hours.

Car: Geo Metro 3 cyl
Engine: 1.0L 3 cyl
Course: Any
GPH: 3GPH
Capacity 10gal
Best Endurance: 3hrs 25 minutes at Autobahn in 2010.. last 2 laps it was cutting out .
Notes:  Every driver has done at least 2 hours 30 minutes and on a cooler day we could handle 4 hours stints with our cool suit, helmet air, in car communication and water bottle.  Would need to get a fuel cell to move the car to the next level.

Capacity: 17gal
Best Endurance: 4hrs at Stafford with Speedycop; 3.5hrs with DC Doug (and one severe rear-ending (w/ Donk delivering))
Notes: we were dumbfounded that it outlasted our ability to drive it round and round and round.  Cool shirts and a couple bottles of warmish water rolling around on the floorboard.

Car: 93 VW Fox
Engine: 8v 1.8L 4 cyl - 90hp
Course: NJMP Lightning
GPH: 3
Capacity: 10 Gal
Best endurance: 2 hours
Notes: The car could probably go longer than 2 hours but usually the drivers are shot after 2 as its very physical, like a go-kart.  NJMP was our best mileage, at Loudon it went up to about 3.5 or so.

Car:  Jeep Cherokee
Engine:  4.0 liter I-6, 126 rwhp
Course:  Reno, Sears, Buttonwillow, High Plains, THill, Oregon Raceway Park, etc
GPH:  ~7
Capacity:  20 gal (but due to slosh, we've never been able to use more than 15 gallons)
Best endurance:  2 hours in the dry, 3 in the rain
Notes:  3000 lbs wet, 4.10 rear axle, three usable gears in AW4 automatic trans.  Not only is the 4.0 heavy, not very reliable, not very powerful, it's also damn thirsty.  Laying off the skinny pedal significantly improves fuel economy and allows us to extend stints as needed for strategy, but at 10/10ths flat out race pace, we're lucky to get a full 2 hour stint out of 15 gallons.

Car: 91 Firebird
Engine: 350 V8 carb 5 speed with no 5th and 5800 rpm limit
Course: TWS
GPH: about 10 gals an hour possible 2 hour stint with 20 gal fuel cell
Capacity: 20 gal fuel cell (the fuel cell solved all our fuel starvation problems, it is an expensive but worthwhile fix)
Duration: 2 hours possible but between oil leaks and BFs for passing under yellow or falling off the track it really doesn't matter tongue

Re: Gallons Per Hour - Call it out

Car: 89 dodge daytona
Engine: 2.2 Turbo II  or 2.5 Turbo
Course: NHMS
GPH: We may never know
Capacity: 14 gallon tank
Duration: Again, may never know. At Nh we added fuel 3 times, each time adding 5 gallons. we started with a full tank, and ended with 1/3. We really have no idea the fuel level unless the car is stationary for a few minutes. On track i can watch the needle go from full to warning light as i go around the track. We were doing 20 minute stints to ensure all drivers got seat time before it blew up.

My best guesses using maths tell me we were doing about 14mpg on track, and if we're averaging 1:50s for lap times we'd be burning about 3.6 gallons/hr.

Don't think we didn't notice the comma in there!   There is a big difference between "dead stock" and "dead, stock".   smile

Re: Gallons Per Hour - Call it out

No idea exactly because we get too caught up in the racing, but here goes:

Car. 1979 Ford Fairmont Futura
Engine. 200ci straight 6 / 1bbl carb / C4 Automatic
Course. Buttonwillow / Sears
GPM. Less than 5gph (we were running 90 minute stints and using less than 10 gallons each one)
Capacity. 15? Gallons
Best endurance. about 2.5 hours

Constructor/Owner/Driver - Billy Beer Ford Futura

Re: Gallons Per Hour - Call it out

Here's my best guesstimate:

Car: Merkurian Falcon, 87 Merkur XR4Ti
Engine 2.3 Turbo Ford (stock except for intercooler)
Course: NHMS
Capacity 15 gallons
Best endurance: 1:45 stint, maybe 2:15 for two drivers without refueling
GPM: 7ish

We popped a headgasket on Friday due to uncontrolled boost, so we started Saturday on 30 minute stints so we'd all hopefully get some track time out of our "investment". Car was pretty well sorted by halfway through Saturday, turned into gas and go after that, although the boost was getting weak toward the end, the clutch felt a little slippy, and the gearbox was a bit "crunchy". Saturday afternoon, we did a driver swap without gas that was possibly ill advised, and with what I think was about 2:10-2:15 track time we ended up dumping 15 gallons into a 15 gallon tank. Ooops. After a 1:45 stint of me thinking I'm Fangio (hahhahahha) and ripping off 1:35-9s, we put about 13 gallons in it. Never did refill it after the last stint, suppose I could to get a more accurate read.

Re: Gallons Per Hour - Call it out

Car. 1991 Civic Wagovan 4WD
Engine. 1.6l D16Y8, stock 5/6 speed.
Course. NJMP, NHMS, Summit
GPM. about 4-4.5, give or take depending on the track.  We are slow, so spend a lot of time WFO throttle.
Capacity. 22 gallon cell, 17-18 useable.
Best endurance. We've run more than 3 hours between fillups over two drivers.  We aren't good enough for 3+ hours stints, still working up to 2 hours

Car. 1971 Sea Sprite 16'/ 1994 Chevy S10
Engine. TBI 4.3, 5 spd, 2.73 gears
Course. NJMP
GPM. 7-8.  She sucked it down.
Capacity. 20 gallons stock tank, we can probably use about 16 of that
Best endurance. about 2 hours and change so far over 2 drivers.  Hopefully we can improve that at Summit.
