I'll drive the car to Buttonwillow and run it, IF:
- Nobody else has the guts to
- I can get at least one local-ish teammate with anything resembling a reasonable set of tools, and
- The car is streetable after all the engine swapping that will happen to it. And still runs by the end of the race, of course.
Alternatively, I'll join any team that dares to run it for Thunderhill, and I'll DRIVE the K-car to Houston afterwards. Heck, for Thunderhill I can actually put together like a half a team just from my own people.
So, I'll do either one, but I vastly prefer Thunderhill because it doesn't eat into my build schedule and I have a place to crash at and keep the car at, in SF.
Finally, I will gladly substitute one of our lackluster NJ entries and drive the K-car across the land, the weekend after Northworst, all the way to DC and then race it at NJMP in August. You know, to give our running, working, boring cars a break. My sister lives in Seattle so I have a place there, and that's a nice excuse to pay a visit anyway. I'm sure I can get some 'Chuckers and/or Outlaws to help me fill the team some more and carry the banner for NJ (because, face it, K-car under a soivet flag and a Sputnik entry gets a bit boring after a while).
I can then drive the stupid thing across the land AGAIN, to CA, fly back to DC, then fly to CA, race, then drive it to TX right after the race, and then fly home. I would essentially cross the country three times and visit at least half the states, right there.
BTW, whoever physically has the car now - please scan/photo the registration card (it's in the glove compartment) and email it to firegremlin at gmail dot com. My insurance company wants a copy of all my registration cards, for some reason o_O
