Re: Real Hoopties of NJ 2014 - Who's in?

We had a fairly good weekend. No black flags. Had a clutch disc spring break about 3 laps till the end of Saturday. Swapped the disc Saturday night. Started Sunday off pretty good till the turbo blow. Swapped the turbo an finished the race. Over all not a bad weekend. Hope we raced everyone clean, if not i am saying sorry for my whole team. But we had no black flags so i think we were ok. We were the black fur covered rat with the pink tail. Car #177

Thanks!  The car literally pulled into the garage and died and now will not start.  The starter is cooked, exhaust broke and burnt/melted some stuff (including one of Lemons's transponders, sorry!!), and we ran out of fuel.

We have some work to do, but can't wait for August

This was our weekend also.  All the way up to P6 for one glorious lap, then several self-inflicted wounds on Sunday.  In spite of what felt like pretty aggressive driving (sometimes around us, sometimes by us), we had no contact all weekend.

We still owe Matt a driver's wristband.  Forgot to cut that off our guy to add to your scalp collection as requested.

I also have to add, I'm disappointed that we won the chrysler cup by default. I really wanted to run against the other daytona, but apparently the car just wasn't ready safety wise. And the shadow couldn't get running. I tried to help the shadow team, but unfortunately i'm useless with electrical. Just plain useless. They couldn't get spark and eventually packed up.

Same here, 6 races, 2 very minor black flags
Saturday alone we got called in 4 times.
only 1 of them we actually knew the offence they were talking about (speeding in pits, passing under yellow).  On the 4th one we were livid, and they tried to shut us down for the day and during arguing turns out they called in the wrong car. 669 vs 696. I'm wondering if any of the other calls were confused  as well.
We wound up in the penalty box for an hour on Sunday morning for this.
Very upsetting but we sucked it up and continued racing.
The drivers this weekend were INSANELY BAD. There were so many slow cars occupying the entire track and I swear trying to kill us. Our car is literally 100hp short of all the other cars at our speed so traffic is always an issue, but this weekend it was so insanely bad.
During a full course yellow someone near me was getting black flagged and after 2 laps of this I figured out it was the car behind me. I literally stopped on the track in front of the guy standing on the grass waving with his car number out and pointed to him, dude behind me finally saw and pulled off.

Oh, did anyone else notice that the flagger on the top of the hill (turn 5 area) was completely inattentive on Saturday? I crested that hill to see a PARKING LOT and almost died, I looked over to see if I missed a yellow flag and the girl was staring at her cell phone facing the other way. A few more times she didn't have her flag out when there were cars in the grass and a few times she's turned around talking to a friend. I"m noticing this stuff, as a driver. That's bad. I don't want to complain but this is a safety issue.

We have always left the races feeling very excited but after this race it was more of a "thank god we survived"
Jay's speech was right on point, it was bad out there. Annoyed at our punishment but it's understood. It's part of racing and what's needed to be done to keep us safe.
Yay Lemons!

Re: Real Hoopties of NJ 2014 - Who's in?

Sunday at Turn 5 hill was insane that happened almost continuous basis on both days.

Was the 10 laps under double yellow a forced time out basically for everyone?  I kinda think it semi backfired.  It bunched the field and then we had some more wrecks and more yellow flags.

Yay Lemons!

I did notice once or twice that there was a car off track and no yellow flag. I don't know if that is right or wrong but I thought it was odd. I don't recall which corner number it was though.

Re: Real Hoopties of NJ 2014 - Who's in?

I will say there was an abundance of "the middle of the track must be the best line", however I found myself actually driving a lot more during the first stint Saturday (we do about 2:45 stints) than usual, there were very few yellows at the start.  There was only 1 driver who I felt was dangerous and it was someone in the brown Datsun or whatever that car is, he apparently didn't know how to use mirrors but did know how to use the whole track.  When I finally wedged my way around him wihile he tried to put me into the grass I gave him a fist shake.  That said I did also get black flagged for nothing at one point which screwed us up Saturday a bit, but it was made up for later on.

Some of my drivers however did report stupidity and the car was sideswiped twice AFTER we made the pass (tire marks on the drivers door are evidence of that.  Someone even hit our drivers mirror on a caution lap.  Good thing they are on spring tethers.

Overall I can't complain this is the first time in recent memory we didn't explode, and we got the win!

Great set of photos so far, think you might have wandered into our pit as we were scrambling to replace or right front end.  Hope so since we only saw one photo of us in the Uber gallery.

Yup, that's exactly where it was on our car. Right over the pentastar on the front bumper. Left it on all weekend because it was funny, but had to remove it when I got home. Not sure my neighbors share my sense of humor.
