There seems to be a lot of leeway on this subject. See for example the Knoxvegas Lowballers current rig. They have a Mercedes OE hood covering the rear engine of a Geo metro held down by hoodpins.

The rule is set in place to keep us using high quality stock body panels for safety reasons. I believe Phil told one person that the hood must be OE to something, not necessarily to the car that you're putting it on. Also, you don't need stock "OE fixators" (I'm guessing that means attachment). You can use hood pins or strong "purpose built" parts.

I believe the spirit of it is to make sure you have a quality hood made of metal covering the engine or else someone would show up with something they made out of paper mache and matchsticks.

For Lemons I don't think they would care, and for tail lights the look more escort to me than saturn, but I don't know.

Yup, it's a (rolled-and-then-caged) 911 with a 4-cylinder oil burner out of a Jetta. Possibly the world's first 911 Turbodiesel. To debut next week at Sears Pointless. If we get the damn thing running.

So, for rear engine car...if rear engine cover is OE and intact/in-place...can we cover frunk (front trunk) with aluminum sheet cutout, secured with OE latch and hood pins? Frunk will house the fuel cell.

Rule states
3.D.2 OE Crush Structures. Modifications that reduce the size and/o r effectiveness of OE crush structures -- including but not limited to shortening or removing frame rails or unibody structures outside the wheelbase -- are discouraged in the strongest possible terms. Cars with compromised OE crush structures are exceedingly likely to fail tech. Non-OE replacement crush structures are not an acceptable substitute; you and your stick welder ain't NHTSA.

While the hood isn't really much of a crush structure I would email John Pagel prior to any modification.  Pictures and a good explanation as to why help.
