Topic: Roll Cage/ Door Question

The car we are planning on racing was originally built to run on an asphalt oval. I know I need to make some modifications to the cage and have no problem doing that I do however have one question. Does the drivers door need to open? We have 4 door bars (3 bent and 1 strait) and the doors are welded shut. The rules just say the drivers need to be able to exit the car rapidly. I am planning on cutting the door a bit more and rolling it directly onto the top tube to make the opening as large as possible.

Has anyone run this setup before?

Re: Roll Cage/ Door Question

The door does not need to open, but from experience I greatly regret not keeping ours functional.

Re: Roll Cage/ Door Question

To answer your question about cutting/rolling the top of the door, yes others have done it.

Re: Roll Cage/ Door Question

The only thing Lemons tech cares about is that all your drivers can get out of the car quickly in the case of an emergency.  As long as all your guys can get out quickly in full gear while being strapped in you will be ok.  Honestly even if the door can open it is best to have everyone practice to be sure they can.

Our car is just as you describe, except we still can open our door.  The top of our door is rolled down to meet the roll bar padding on the top bar.

Re: Roll Cage/ Door Question

Our car is an old circle track with the doors welded shut, no issues there.  Please note that I remember hearing some talk where a team that had a car with cut down doors needed to make them full doors again.  Might have been that they were cut too low.  Email the tech people before you cut the doors down.
