Topic: Summit Point - will it return?

It's been a few years since Lemons raced at Summit Point. Any chance it will ever return?

I miss it...

No.  It is impossible to make that track safe enough for Jay to want to return there.  See the deer?  Blame her.

We won the IOE at Southern Discomfort.
We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Bummer.

Looking at your sig you've raced at CMP, NJMP and Summit. I haven't been to CMP yet but really like both tracks and NJMP and Summit. How would you rate CMP? Worth the drive from the DC/MD area? We're trying to decide which fall/summer race to do between CMP, and the two tracks in New England.

The thing that makes the fall CMP race great is the fact that the nearby town lets us invade and hold a parade and do BS inspection in the middle of town. It really makes for a great time!

Re: Summit Point - will it return?

CMP is a fun track to drive, the Fall parade and block party in Camden is a blast, and the paddock BBQ is also a hoot. We've made the trek out there from Houston twice now, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if I had more money to burn.

Re: Summit Point - will it return?

When we ran CMP last month I talked to them about Dominion and they didn't laugh at me. It's an hour south of D.C. Less than 1/10 mile of I95.

Re: Summit Point - will it return?

We've run mostly at CMP.  it's a fun track, no elevation, but plenty of speed and challenging corners.  The thing that really makes it for us is the atmosphere- it's always really chill and a good time.  We know everyone and the people who run the track are just awesome.  I think it's one of Lemons' favorite tracks, too- even though they're West Coast based.

That said....I can't wait for Dominion to open up, and if Lemons runs there, I want to run the first race there.  :-D

Re: Summit Point - will it return?

That's our picture.  I was driving at the time, it was surreal after the fact when I realized what happened.

We miss Summit.  The track was a rollercoaster, the pit atmosphere was amazing, scaring the groups of teenagers sharing a Zima at hyperfest was always fun.

We would be in for Dominion, now that they seem to have sorted some of the fairly serious safety issues they had when the opened.  PittRace would be another one that would be good for the northeast, that is a fun track.  Palmer is amazing, but has no runoff so I can't imagine Lemons ever running there.  CMP as a track is completely disappointing to me, in the bottom 25% of the 20+ tracks I've run, but the atmosphere and people and fun of the parade is what makes us want to run it again this year.
