Topic: Scrotium Test Day

Just in case you didn't get or missed the email from Nick..

Hey, Road Atlanta Racers:
We've gotten a lot of inquiries about Friday on-track testing before the race. Normally, this is the track's deal, and Road Atlanta did not want to host a test session.
So, against our better judgment, we've rented the track and associated safety support ourselves so that those interested can test on Friday. The test session will run from 9 to 5 on Friday with an hour lunch break.
While this session is optional, we strongly encourage you to participate--mostly, we're just concerned about covering our costs. In addition to having a chance to blow up the car before the race starts, all participating teams will receive a Get Out Of Penalty Free card.
The cost to register is $325 per car if you preregister online, and $375 if you register on site. To register online, go to your online team page and click the "Optional Friday Testing" toggle in the "Car Info" section. The $325 cost will then be added to your team fees. PLEASE NOTE: To get the $325 price, you must click the toggle and submit payment online before the database closes on November 29.
When you arrive at the track, check in at Lemons HQ to get the testing sticker for your car. Preregistered teams will be on the list.
That's it for now,
Nick

24 HOL is putting their neck out a bit to offer the test day, so it'd be great if as many teams as possible could sign up, A) So Road Atlanta will administer the test day next year B) So 24 HOL will cover most of it's costs.

Re: Scrotium Test Day

My team is registered and paid.  I'm so glad to see this because for some reason watching video does zero to help me learn a new track.  My buddy has been learning it playing his X-Box, and though it's pretty darn realistic, I simply SUCK at video games, so it's of no help to me.

Re: Scrotium Test Day

Having raced there, I HIGHLY recommend the test day.  It's a big boy track (and I'm surprised that 24HOL is running there) that has a bunch blind corners, and fast close walls.

We won the IOE at Southern Discomfort.
We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Re: Scrotium Test Day

Robert and I already signed up for the Chin HPDE this weekend. We'll be hooning around Road Atlanta all day Saturday and Sunday. I'll be flying to Germany for a couple of weeks after that and won't be back until Friday afternoon, so no test day for me.

iRacing is also really good. We've got a full VR sim racing setup at the shop and it helps a lot. Running a few hours on Barber, Sebring, and COTA really helped  before we raced there for the first time. I've been turning laps on Road Atlanta for a few weeks now and can drive it with my eyes closed. I'm going to try that during the race, so stay clear of the Duff car.

For other tracks, like NCM, I'll put on the VR headset, then sit with a wheel and pedals and turn laps while playing full-screen youtube videos of people lapping those tracks. It's not as good as iRacing,. but I do get my input timing down and know what to expect around the blind corners. I've been trying to get familiar with the Nurburgring, but that's a big course.

Everybody grab your brooms, it's shenanigans!

Re: Scrotium Test Day

I also HIGHLY recommend the test day of you have never been to Road Atlanta. Your race weekend will go much better.

Re: Scrotium Test Day

Yeah, do the test day. I just spent a couple of days running there and it's a real eye-opener. There are some scary spots that having some seat time on really helped me to carry more speed in.

The learning curve at RA is steep. Speed comes with laps. Get them in on the test day. I have 1000+ laps here and am still learning the nuances.
