Topic: Fiberglass hood?
Will this hood cause me to fail tech? It is a lift off Harwood 2" cowl. OEM hood was sold years ago and i haven't been able to locate another one as of yet.

Nope...not crash structure and you have a hood.

Have you done any testing after installing the splitter and covering the upper grille? also, assuming your radiator is boxed, would you be willing to share some pics?

Beg to differ:
3.J.2 Fenders, Doors, and Hoods Required. All cars must have fenders at all wheels so that no tire surface extends past the body; all doors in place; and OE hoods. Hoods must be securely mounted by OE hardware and/or strong fasteners at all corners.

I agree. The rules clearly specify an OE hood. My guess is a decent aftermarket hood might very well qualify for a waiver but this is a question for Lemons HQ before proceeding.

Especially given how many holes and such they allow in "OE" Hoods that are basically just flappy sheetmetal.
Best to ask HQ about this one. The rules do state OE hoods, but they may be willing to work with you. Ultimately they'll be the ones passing or failing you at tech.

Sometimes I have a hard time understanding the rules enforcement regarding safety items. For instance you are supposed to have the OE crash structures in place, which I take to mean at least the front and rear bumpers. The black RSX that ran at Barber this year didn't have a rear bumper the whole race.
I'm sure if a magnesium bodied helicopter is ok, an OE style(ish) fiberglass hood would be ok. At least you can put it out if it starts on fire. +1 on checking with HQ just to be safe, but I wouldn't sweat it too much.

This.

Where are you located? I could probably find you 5 Fox Mustang hoods before the weekend around here.

Isn't the Kiowa's airframe mostly aluminum? I mean, not that I object to gratuitously attaching magnesium to the top of a race car...
Top?
Pshhhh live dangerously, magnesium skid plates.

The V4 version is open beneath the engine but the entire underside of a two-stroke 96 is already pretty much one big skid plate:
Besides, M6 survival sleds are hard to come by these days. I'd rather not scuff it, which is one more reason not to flip the car.
If a non OEM hood is good enough for Randy....

I have seen many a car with OEM-style fiberglass or CF hoods pass tech, I wouldn't worry. They're safer than most gutted steel hoods, IMO. The general idea seems to be that if it looks solid and will keep stuff from spilling/flying out when your engine grenades, it'll do.
I should have asked; I'd have built the 97 Accord with the Cervini hood, it was half-stripped already...... Oh, well, I still have the memories, and it went to a good home.
I emailed Nick about this and he basically said that they won't give you problems unless the hood is overly janky.
Sota unrelated, but we really need a compilation video of hoods flying open in Lemons races for lemonsworld. I expect we could wrangle up at least a couple dozen examples.
Well if you are going there...we need a compilation of wheels passing cars. Most should be easy to find since they tend to happen on the transponder testing laps.

Good call, I have at least a couple of those in my video archives.

I remember one happening at Monticello on Sunday.
Here's a hood. It was a bad day for windshields (this was the same day at Summit that someone got a deer in their windshield):

We have a fiberglass hood, using factory mounts and latch. Was never even a question.
