Topic: Total noob looking to learn a thing or two in Chicago

Hello everyone, my name is Nick Lantzy. I’m 25 years old with a full time position at Starbucks as a shift supervisor, though I am set up for a promotion to assistant store manager in April. I am also a bartender on Saturdays. I graduated college in 2016 with a degree in communications with an emphasis in film. I drive a 2000 Hyundai Accent GL with a manual transmission and 270k on it. It’s worth about $500 according to kbb so I basically daily drive a Lemons car.

I am looking for a Lemons team somewhere on the north end of Chicago who is willing to take on a glorified intern. I have been looking into Lemons racing for a while and it looks like a lot of fun. It also looks a little expensive for where I am in life presently. From what the internet has told me being a part of a Lemons team typically runs in the $1500-$2000 range depending on how much work needs to be done and how many events you go to, etc. I do not have that kind of disposable income right now.

What I do have is a constant supply of free coffee.

As an employee of Starbucks I get a free pound of coffee each week and, even though I drink a ton of the stuff, I still have a surplus. What I am offering is to supply my team with all the coffee they need in exchange for experiencing the world of Lemons racing as well as teaching me to turn a wrench.

Now, I’m not completely green, just mostly. I can change my oil, tire, headlights, and some other basic car maintenance tasks, but I really want to get into tinkering and fixing so I can be a little more self sufficient in my automotive experience.

I am also looking to shoot a documentary of the process of preparing for a Lemons race. As I mentioned above, I have a film degree and I am itching to put it to use. I would love to put together a video of the team going through a season and documenting their struggles and triumphs. I think it would be great to follow a team that is starting work on a new car but has done a season or two.

So, if you are looking for a documentarian who brings coffee, a spare pair of hands and a good sense of humor, let me know and hopefully we can work something out.

We are not in North Chicago but we may have a few elements you are interested in:

Two IoE wins and about 5 years of racing now
Relaxed attitude about "winning"
Epic build(s) in the works (after the season is over)
Two cars competing in the Joliet race in April
Ability to get you into said race free
3-4 Newbies at this race popping their Lemons...um yeah...doing their first race
I bring lots of homebrew beer and organize a Friday night potluck most races
Finally, contacts with most of the Midwest teams including a couple out of the NW Suburbs

Our Super Secret race car development center is in Monee, IL and we do have a build day this weekend that might see our totally transformed 1947 Plymouth start for the first time since we swapped...almost everything.

PM me if interested.

Would reccomend Bad Decisions. They're a great team and a lot of people get their start racing with them. Truly embody the spirit of the race and are a pillar of the midwest Lemons community.
