Started on the rear 3 link.

Got all the lower arms, and crossmember tacked in place.

Scratched my head for a while and there is no good place to mount the watts link, coilovers, and sway bar....looks like I have to build frame rails...poop

Is your salvage yard based in an old Chrysler factory where they left all the equipment behind?  So cool!

Unless you’re building Lemons, in which case it’s Nirvana.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Epic.  Just fooking epic.

Any guess on what it will weigh on race day?

Absolutely no idea.  I want to get corner scales, but those suckers are $$$$$$

I pulled a lot of heavy stuff off the car, so I'm hopeful.

Car is 16' long and they used Lead instead of body filler for "panel smoothing"

I'd be happy if I hit 4500 with driver.

Damn, that's one heavy b*tch.  Brakes are going to get a serious workout.  How do you plan to cool them?

I was going to run ducts from the front of the car under the headlights.

The drag strip by me has scales you can drive up on and weight the car. Check around locally and see if there are a set of scales. What about a truck stop?

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

I live in a really nice part of Seattle where the local dump is about 10 minutes from my house.  They have big scales and I bet they'd be happy to weigh a Rolls.  Until you tell them you're not there to drive it onto the junk pile.  Then they'll be sad.

Also any kind of landscaping supply will have a scale (you know, the kind of place where you drive up, get your truck weighed, fill the back bed with dirt/gravel, get weighed again, and pay the difference.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

44 DAYS

Been working my buns off on this dumb car 7 days a week.

I should retract opening my big mouth and maybe stop saying dumb things like "YEAH, I can build a Rolls Royce race car and have it compete in an endurance race in 2 months....noooooo problem"

Starting to work on the inside of the car, the floor is all rotted and the trans tunnel isn't allowing me to place the engine and trans where I want them so I have to cut that out and build a new one.  This damn thing doesn't stop throwing curve ball's at me. Also, time to start on the cage.

I was a little worried on how the front wheels were going to look with machining the bore and having the dust cap protruding.  I gotta say, it turned out really nice.

Is there a good story on how the trailer jack ended up like that smile

Seriously, hope you get it finished in time.  If I lived any closer, I'd offer to help; looks like a fun place to work.

Yup, loaned it to a friend and got it back like that!

I appreciate the offer for help.  I have been going at this car on my own.  I have good friends that are interested in starting to race, but they have never done anything like this before and don't know how much fun it is so they haven't made it a priority to offer time to help.  They are also really busy with work, new born babies, etc.  I feel like after the first race they would potentially like to be more involved, but at that point the car will be mostly done anyway. With such a time crunch, and the car needing so much heavy fabrication work, more people would slow progress so I suppose it's working out for the best.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Do you already have your team of drivers for Gingerman?  Seems like there's LeMon concentrate in the IL/MI area with a lot of fab skills that might make for a great team.  Looks like you're getting close to being able to use some help as the heavy engineering gives way to lots of fiddly stuff that can have multiple people working on it.  Wish I lived out that way.  I'd be IN!!

Keep it up.  The stance on that car is awesome.

Curious to hear if the Viper carcass and the RR 6.75 liter bullet are sold...if they're not, sure would be neat to see how a RR powered Viper would stack up against a Viper powered RR...

So, What do you all think I should run for a brake pad?  I called porterfield and he recommended either the Raybestos ST43 or the Raybestos ST47.

He said the ST47 requires a minimum temperature to be maintained and are a little tricky because of their high grip.

I told him none of us know how to drive, we are dumb, and we are racing a 77 Rolls Royce that weights 5,000 lbs with a 500ci V10....he was amused.

He recommended against the ST47.

Thoughts?

Starting to build the new floor & trans tunnel.

The factory trans tunnel wasn't allowing the transmission to get high enough in the chassis to get the right engine angle.
