Topic: Lone Star beer, everything from TEXAS is better SmellslikeAMCSpirit

https://www.facebook.com/teamlowball/
Our entry description.
So we have 6 races under our belt (2 of which we broke 1 we black flagged out of) 1 IOE, and 2 cars build, so you could say we got this bitch on lockdown!!! Our cars are the Gremlin and sport about so obviously we are sick and twisted AMC fans.  You announced a race with Amc Spirit in the title that is only 37 hours from us so we have to go, but we don’t actually have a Spirit.  Our plan which could not fail, is to find a Spirit between now and October drive or tow it to Seattle (probably picking it up on the way).  Bend a cage based on the Gremlins dimensions which are the same as the Spirit and weld it in track side Thursday night, and use our cornucopia of super cheaty amc parts and dominate Saturday and Sunday.  I see nothing that could possibly go wrong!!
We are a Texas based team but have a member in New Mexico and Northern California, so a car anywhere in between would work.  Our hope is to find something that is a driver or sorts.  Throw a cage, seat, belts, kill switch, fire extinguisher, and tow points in track side, change some consumables like fluids and pads, add a tranny cooler if automatic (ugh), and win. Time to start perusing Craigslist and Facebook.
The big challenges we see besides the obvious are we had to pick a race at a track with very few amenities and very questionable weather.  So thewelder and other tools will all have to be run off a generator and some kind of shelter may have to be acquired.

Not the AMC Spirit you are seeking, but a great starting point for an AMC-spirited team like yours:

1966 American. Has a 6cyl motor that runs great and 3 speed standard transmission that shifts great! 3 on the tree ... this is a hard to find two door ... all glass is good everything works as it should ... this is a running and driving project that needs cosmetic restoration... I have the pink slip but reg is behind a couple months ... asking $1,495 obo. Make a offer. This is a running project!!
Pls email questions. Or if you like to see it.

Re: Lone Star beer, everything from TEXAS is better SmellslikeAMCSpirit

This isn't technically a Spirit, but it's the same chassis but with four wheel drive.

Think we found our winner.

Gotta figure the transmission out... probably just pull it from the Gremlin and bring it with us.

Re: Lone Star beer, everything from TEXAS is better SmellslikeAMCSpirit

So after convincing the guy I was serious he agreed to sell me the car for $600 and $300 storage fee to hold it till the beginning of October.  The transmission is absolutely shot it sounds like so the Gremlin is sacrificing her transmission and clutch linkage for the race.  I have an extra flywheel, clutch, and bell housing laying around so that swap should only take a couple of hours.  Other than that sounds like it needs shocks to hitch I have laying around as well, brake pads, tires, and fluids.  How could this go wrong.

So in Texas the Gremlin is making some sacrifices for the Spirit.

And in northern California we have the cage being built to the same dimensions as the Gremlin and Sportablout, one of the great things about AMC not changing many tings over 20 years.

Picked up the car today in El Paso, seems to be workable.  I runs a little rough, but nothing crazy and it slips all the way through 2nd and goes straight to third.  Glad we have all the Gremlin goodies off to Utah tonight.

Re: Lone Star beer, everything from TEXAS is better SmellslikeAMCSpirit

So the race approaches and things are kinda coming together.  The car and I will be arriving in the area Thursday, and the slackers on the team are flying in Wednesday night and getting a hotel in the ghetto.  We will be getting to the track Thursday night and .will be ripping out the interior and starting the cage install and going through the brakes.  Hoping to find a pit off the beaten path for that night at least since we will be making quite a bit of noise.  We are bringing some quality supplies from Texas, so stop by, grab a Lone Star, and point and laugh.
Friday we plan on cooking up a big pot of Texas Chili for some Frito pie, as well as possibly some Queso for lunch/dinner, there will be plenty to go around... maybe... so stop by and get a bowl, we promise to use ground beef with the least amount of E coli possible.
Don't be a stranger in the pit, or of Facebook https://www.facebook.com/teamlowball/

Now to get some rest before we pull a tranny....
