Topic: SBC 1 Piece Rear Main Leak

Pretty sure the 1 piece rear main seal on a SBC is leaking.  Pan gasket is new and engine is in vehicle.  Any chance I can change this without pulling the pan?  If anyone knows the trick, this mix of people will.

Re: SBC 1 Piece Rear Main Leak

I'm not familiar with SBC engines but if it were almost anything I've worked on you can usually take a sharp punch and make a hole in the body of the seal and screw a sheet metal screw in. Then use that to pry the seal out. Sometimes just pushing the seal inward on one side will cause the seal to "cock" in it's bore allowing you to pry it out.

Both of these methods have worked for me on other engines.

The 1 pc seal does not require pan removal.
