Topic: Slant Six Needed for The Resistance Dart at NOLA

The Resistance just discovered a rod knock in their Dodge Dart's 225 slant six. We're scouring Craigslist for a running motor but not having much luck. Does anybody know of a running slant six (of any vintage) within a couple hours of New Orleans? Even a short block would work.

Any good leads, please call or text me. (Number now redacted)

They found an engine locally... it's pretty rusty and doesn't turn over. Looks like they'll be spending tonight building one good engine out of two bad ones.

At that point why not just do new bering shells?

That's what they ended up doing. They sanded down the offending rod caps (to theoretically increase the clamping force on the new shells), lined the backs of the new shells with loc-tite, and set their fancy-pants rev limiter to about 3300.  They made 35 laps before shattering the same rod that previously spun its bearing the worst, which was about 34 more laps than anyone expected. They won the Heroic Fix trophy.

Their rusty replacement engine had an earlier (forged) crank with different size (wider) rod bearings, so they couldn't just steal a couple rods out of it to fix their original engine. Since it's also a stronger design, they decided to save it for a proper rebuild later, rather than half-ass it in a paddock rebuild and potentially blow it up.
