Topic: Need A Welder for pre-built Lemons Cage - Near Chicagoland Area

As the title states my team is looking for a welder to weld in a cage we bought from Summit specifically for our Dodge Stealth to Lemons spec.

Here is a pic of the cage as it was delivered

This is the cage we bought on summit

The car is already gutted with all interior out. If you have experience or know of someone who does please get in contact with me

Thanks

What the heck are those two tubes with the 90 degree bend in the middle of them for?

No those are inside the Halo hoop near the middle of the box.

I can account for all of the other parts that would make up a complete cage--main and halo hoops, front down bars, rear stays, the behind-the-seat bar, door bars and verticals...but I don't see the dash bar.

Not required in Lemons but if you paid for it...

We received dash bars in our last four (cannot believe we have ordered that many) cage kits and have yet to install one (or maybe we did on Owen's Neon).  Do I recommend that? Meh, depends on the application.  If the dash is completely out and the access if straight forward, do it.

To the OP (HP7), might I ask what the plan was when you ordered a kit?  Did your original welding expert back out or get cold feet?  Most folks that order a pre-bent start with a plan.  Do you have a timeframe in mind?

Plan was to have a shop near us weld it in but obviously plans have changed. We have someone who has reached out from the forums and will be taking a look this Sunday.

No dash bar in the neon. I would like to have one, but things are a little crowded in there.

If your local person didn't recommend Ed Hast in Blue Island, he can be good if he's still doing this work. You have to be persistent with him and allow a lot of time if he is. He builds/prepares TV/Movie cars at his shop as his primary means of income, so having a cage built will happen around his schedule. But he's built at least a handful of cages and will do the work for a very reasonable rate.

His information comes up on the forums from time to time, the comments in this thread are accurate:

Thanks Eric, I appreciate the advice.

Tom Anderson at TA racing in Buffalo Grove did three cages for us- WAY nicer than anything I've seen in Lemons- all TIG welded.   If it's for October race you might be a little tight...

Our team used Red Mist in Gilberts IL.  There was some back/forth but came together in the end.  Even if the rules don't require it - do the dash bar and foot well protection.

Edit - TonyMotive Performance in Glenview is another option.

Ed is great and does a really nice job, he's done 2 cages for me and never had any issue with tech. That being said, we both work in the same business and I can tell you he likely won't have much time until April or May when his show goes on hiatus, episodic TV hours are brutal...
