Topic: Cheap Fuel Jugs

We are finishing our vehicle build for BIR and were about to buy these:

but I cannot find any particular agency approval for use as a fuel jug. I have no intention of doing any quick fuel dump modifications on it, but I don't want to get kicked for not using approved jugs. With the flexible hoses these seem better suited for fueling, we were also looking at some standard cans like you can buy at O'reilly.

We aren't looking to shave fueling time, just to be compliant with the rules. The traditional DOT cans are just such a pain to use, are the jugs in the first link legal to use?

Lot's of teams use those VP jugs.

Those will be fine, I have a couple.

We have a couple Hunsakers but don't like them much and a team mate has a bunch of the Jegs he's added hoses too. The Jegs jugs the cheapest deal you'll find but we've had issues with the jugs and lids cracking.

I prefer these:

We do add vent hoses and larger, longer dump hoses to our jugs.

There have been a few discussions about this over the years:

Notice the dual handles on the Pit Posse jugs Troy is showing.  That extra set of handles makes a big difference.  We have four of these as well.

+1 on the 2-handled jug.  We use these.

Re: Cheap Fuel Jugs

I noticed a lot of teams using the vent hose solution like in the picture above.  Are you guys running a tube or hose in the jug as well to vent to the top of the jug when pouring or just the external hose to prevent spilling out the vent hole?

Techniques vary.  The 1/4" (3/8" OD) PEX line can be fished to the bottom of the VP jugs if the vent hole is over drilled but it is a lot of effort...return on effort was great for us most of the time.  Some just do it so you can tip once to full height and be done with it.

Re: Cheap Fuel Jugs

We do not run a vent line down the inside. Just the outside.

The Pit Posse jugs have a threaded vent cap so you can just slip a hose over the males threads.
