Topic: Tires

We are running Falken Azenis, and my question is how far down do you guys run race tires before you consider them junk ? Our car weighs in at 2100 pounds and it doesn't seem to make a difference in handling when running new or used tires. As always, thanks for all your professional answers.

Re: Tires

In the dry? To the cords.

In the wet, to the wear bars.

Re: Tires

Before cords here also.  We currently like Ventus R-S4's. These hankook tires have a good tread life.

Re: Tires

We run a new set of RS-4’s each race and move last race’s set to practice duty. Having said that, we have gotten 30 hours out of a set and could still practice on them.   I have never worn a set out to the cords.   Now I’m curious how long they could go.

Re: Tires

Our historically underpowered, mildly understeering, ~3100 lb RWD B/C-class car runs the Azenis RT-615K+ in 225-45-17. We buy two tires every race, put them on the rear, and cycle the 1-race rears to the front. If we shelled out for practice on Friday, we generally do this after practice.

Assuming we run the whole race with minimal issues, the car definitely starts to feel a little plow-y toward the end of Sunday. The fronts we take off are usually bald on the outside with a tiny bit of tread left on the inside, but no cords visible. The new rears usually end the race at 80%.

(All of the above subject to change if we get this turbo situation figured out.)

Re: Tires

People do some very strange things with tire mounting at Lemons. If you match your tire size to the rim width you will get better wear and track performance.
