Topic: 3.B.5 Arm Restraints.

Just re-examining the rules as we shore up things for Houston.

3.B.5 Arm Restraints. Arm restraints are required when driving an open T-Top or convertible.

Is this supposed to be:

???

Re: 3.B.5 Arm Restraints.

Means if you have a metal pan welded or riveted over your T-top or sunroof opening, you do NOT need arm restraints. I believe a "soft top", even if it is closed, must have a driver wearing arm restraints since it's not really "structural" and could come off/loose in a rollover.

Now that I think of it, I personally don't think I would want to run with a soft top in the up position. I'm imagining lots of stabby things pointing at me.

In short, if the roof has the potential to can-open in a rollover allowing your limbs to flail outside of the caged area, you need arm restraints.

Re: 3.B.5 Arm Restraints.

Also if you build your cage to fit under a workable convertible top, you're just throwing out headroom.

Right, because for headroom in a convertible, the sky's the limit

Re: 3.B.5 Arm Restraints.

If I get rid of the convertible top and weld/rivet on a metal pan, my HOA's gonna kill me.
I'll get the arm restraints.
