Topic: Dormant Lemons Cars/Rollers for Re-homing, SoCal $2500+

I had to put a price to not have a total clickbait Subject Heading.

The infamous ToyoHog has been sitting under the same eucalyptus trees for a couple of years now. Time to say goodbye. It is a 2008 Toyota Prius with a near FIA-spec rally cage in it (diagonals designed so that you could make them full X at current roof and at current hoop diagonal and then add gussets and you are there). Stock Prius suspension and fuel tank and an extra stock front subframe and suspension, extra doors, hood, trunk hatch. Last ran when there was no fire system required. Has fixed back legal seat on stock sliders. Stock braking system run purely off of hydraulics, no power assist function. You'll want to upgrade the master if you put some power through it to get the braking you desire. Sets of spare stock wheels included. Consider it a nicely-caged complete roller that you need to drop your own powerplant into. That said, I have a jdm toyota FWD engine from some 90's something or other (that's often used in lotus conversions??) but no transmission for it. Engine is included if you want it.  If you didn't know, it was previously (and still currently) a chain-drive FWD setup using a motorcycle engine. If you want to go that route again but with something more capable, it's good to go already for that.  I'm putting a price of $2500 on it to include whatever I can convince you to take along with it. Negotiable if you want to wrangle future seat time or discounted team-member rates for a future event that I can attend. This really is a great starter platform for someone who doesn't weld cages but LOVES to do mechanical swaps and upgrades. Harley donor bike not included but if you REALLY want it, I actually have a second sportster motor... all negotiable but I wouldn't recommend it.  Good candidate for a rear drive conversion as well (I know of a FWD V8 motor and some Lexus rear subframe and suspension setup that would go nicely back there...). Basically, if you need a caged roller to get you more than halfway to the track, this is a wonderful opportunity to base your dreams/nightmares on.

I've also got a quirky little centrifugal clutch, belt drive Dutch car that should be an IOE contender when in the hands of someone who gives a damn. Drove off the track after completing 20+ laps straight at the end of its first and only race a few years ago. Fire suppression and fuel cell installed but bottle probably needs to have it recertified. Class C "ready" once you get it fired up again and cleaned off and dates of safety items in order. Comes with all of the stock interior (headliner is still installed even with the cage, btw) and a spare core motor and a second used stock driveshaft (Thanks MHarrel) as well as a modified one for an emergency spare. Admittedly, the driveshaft was out problem in the first outing. Well that and just general team mis-management by yours truly. We had a kick-ass party, though! I'll throw a Lemons Typical $5500 price tag on it, mostly because there's a weird following for these cars and I believe the market will bare that price minus all the race stuff in it. If you are serious about wanting it and know what you're in for, I can be subject to being charmed...

Then there are these First GEN MINI COOPERS that I've horded to make 1 to 2 cars plus several buckets of spares (transmissions and engines) that I'm just not going to get to. They are "justacooper" and not supercharged, but while there is indeed one 5spd transmission in the accident damaged car (has something like 30K miles on the whole car) the rest are 6speed getrag boxes that I'd intended for the regular cooper motor. Should be Neon-ish performance. 2 Cars total. Not caged. Been dormant for quite some time. Accident damaged car can be pulled straightish to cage and race as-is or just use it for low mileage spares for the other car that has a 120Kmi engine mounted to a 6spd trans ready to drop in to it. I can bend cage tubing for interested locals to get you closer to where you want to be in terms of a race-ready car, but youll have to do your own notching and welding. I can help with procuring the tubing of your choice if needed. Price?? Depends on how much of it you want to take. I'll say no less than $2K for 1 car's worth with some spares and $4500 for every damned thing I can find including new axles, clutch, gaskets and whatever else BINI I can find around here.

Might actually be interesting to put one of the BINI  motors in the Prius... hmm.

I've also got a Celette mobile car lift (think big pallet jack that can lift a car to waist height and roll it around on glass-smooth concrete) that we can negotiate into any of the above deals. like this one https://www.raeservice.com/product/cele … 2000-lift/

Sorry, read that as DOMINANT Lemons cars.

Hmm, just finished John Cooper’s autobiography… how about a twin-BINI powered Prius in tribute to the machine that almost killed Mr Cooper? Sounds lemony to me!

I think Spank wanted to put twin Toronado engines in it, but I approve twin BINIs.  I actually think the cage was built with a rear engine in mind at some point, but I could be confused.

Re: Dormant Lemons Cars/Rollers for Re-homing, SoCal $2500+

There was supposed to be a 3-prius onslaught:

Prius #1 Harley Powered (ToyoHog)
Prius #2 Bone Stock 2008 hybrid and all (Gentrification du Lemons)
Prius #3 ToyoNado Rear(mid?) engined 455 engine and transaxle from 1970 Olds Toronado with Jet Boat style chrome headers sticking out the rear hatch and POSSIBLY a really long ram stack setup putting the carb at the roofline. This never happened even though I had 3 identical 2008 Prii at that time.

We did run #1 and #2 at Sonoma, but in the run up to that race I was running short on time and when I looked at the "quick and dirty" option for sticking the 455 in the back of the prius #3 (just using the entire front subframe from that Toronado) it would have been too unsafe, even for my standards. The frame rail would have been too high and too close to the driver's back.  After that Sonoma Race (where we ran the ToyoHog and Stock Prius alongside a 67 Toronado instead) I ended up just selling the stock race prius to live another life / die another death on the east coast Lemons circuit and the #3 prius  went and got parted out and the chassis crushed.

The thought of turning the ToyoHog into #3 "ToyoNado" has hopped on and off the back burner over the years, because I still have that Toronado front subframe and drivetrain (and another spare V8 fwd toronado drivetrain), but I've lost the fire to make any of that stuff happen, myself.

So you are saying there is still a chance?

HEY! I'm not... um, well, anyway, the DAF guy in Maine seems normal.

Inasmuch as I have a hate-hate relationship with my own DAF-adjacent cars and yet have finally gotten one of mine to complete half a rally, I suppose I can offer myself as a resource for anyone who wants to take on this one. I can even help somewhat with parts, to the extent that there's swappability between this 55 and its successor 66.

A DAF needs no theme.  Especially doesn't need a three garage red light district theme.

I don't think a red light district theme is ever not necessary.

That guy

I guess you have a point.  I heard you got a garage at Sonoma.  I think Spank still has the windmill, should he load it on the trailer?
