Topic: Race Ready1987 Honda Accord (good beginner car), Class C winner $2000

This race ready 1987 Honda Accord LXi includes the car, with race seat, fire suppression system etc. It would also include several sets of wheels and slightly used tires. There is also a spare motor (needs to be rebuilt) that would be included in addition to a lot of spare parts. The car has a manual transmission and a Honda A20 motor. There is one thing that will need to be addressed. The seatbelts expire this year and will need to be replaced before next year. We would also like to keep our radios so new radios would need to be installed.

We have raced the car in 4 Lemons races (it raced at least two before us) and have not had any major troubles. With the exception of pulling off the track for minor issues, we have finished all four races. Below is some info on how we finished those races. We have added coil-over shocks to the car, racing sway bars, headers and a complete rebuild of the front and rear suspension.

MSR 2020 Class B – finished 33rd overall & 10th in class
MSR 2021 Class B – finished 49th overall & 16th in class (off the track for 1.5 hrs because harmonic balancer fell off)
NOLA 2022 Class C – finished 14th overall & 2nd in class
MSR 2022 – Class C – finished 20th overall & 1st in class

This is a good Lemons starter car, you will not be competing with the faster cars, you will get lots of track time and will not spend all weekend in the pits trying to get your car back on the track.

$2000, Houston, Tx area

This sounds like a great deal!  After you've posted twice I believe you can then add photos. Good luck with the sale. It should go fast (the sale I mean, maybe not the car... LOL)

Re: Race Ready1987 Honda Accord (good beginner car), Class C winner $2000

I have a 1987 Prelude, Si; ....very similar....great, dependable car.  We just won Class C in it....its a bit fast and dependable for Class C, even though it was rated at 110 Hp, but you can really make it light, and easy to drive.  Its kind of mid class for Class B, also
A20 engine has been great.  We've been running the same engine for 6 or 7 years now, 3 or 4 races per year...iron block, does not overheat even in very hot weather (we leave the radiator fan ON all the time), never blew a head gasket, etc.
Easy to work on, good tranny, fun to drive, predictable
Does not use much fuel, burns approx. 4-5 gallons per hour.  One tank could last over 2.5 hours without any fuel starvation.
Does not burn hardly any oil....maybe a half quart for the weekend
Parts are getting more difficult to find though...
.I've done a few modifications to make it more reliable, but it is basically stock

MarioKart Driving School: 1987 Honda Prelude Si (Opus #28)
Loudon, NH 2014 - Millville, NJ, Lightening 2019 (RIP)
New and improved: 1987 Honda Prelude Si (Opus #11) Pittsburgh, PA 2021 - ??
and finally won something, Class C Win: Loudon, NH 2022

Don't think he was attempting to hijack the thread; mzavarin just wants to offer an endorsement of the platform and to let others to know how he prepped a similar car. SPEED SECRETS.

Totally agree on the endorsement characterization of mzavarin's post, rather than hijack speculation.

I'm also surprised this is not already closed as "sold".

(And I endorse this message/ad....!)
To clarify:
This race ready 1987 Honda Accord LxI should be a great car to race in Lemons, based on my experience with a similar car, the Honda Prelude
As I said, its  a relatively reliable car, fun to drive, nimble in the turns, easy to work on, does not weigh much when stripped down...
So this is a GREAT deal for someone wanting to get in on the fun!

(My Prelude is NOT for sale, sorry, way too much blood, sweat, and tears have gone into it...)
