Topic: Sold: 2000 Audi A4, w/ spares/tires/pads - Austin, TX - $8500 OBO

SOLD - 2000 Audi A4  1.8l turbo inline-4 FWD, with tons of spares/tires/pads/and more - $8500 OBO.
Getting out of racing - the garage must be cleared.
Bring a big truck – this is a car, all the spares, and all the pit equipment you will need to go racing.
Car and all equipment in Austin, TX.

This car was built in 2012-13, first raced in 2014, and has raced over 40 race weekends since.
It's FWD - but everyone that drives this car says it doesn't drive like FWD.  And with a 1.8t motor
(~200-210HP to the ground), this car pulls hard off corners and accelerates well down the straights.
Have all the craigslist ads showing this is a $500 car – including the ad that was used to purchase the car.

It's not the fastest car on the grid, but in the hands of capable drivers, it’s competitive
in class and does well overall.  Has finished in Top 10 overall multiple times – including 9th overall at
the MSRH 24 hours race in November of 2018.  With a few more tweaks, and a bit of luck, who
knows what place you could find yourself at the end of a race.

For a new team just getting started, this car/spares/equipment package puts you at
the racetrack with nothing to spend but entry fee.  New tires, new brake pads, and
all the pit equipment you need to go racing – all come with this deal.  And probably most
importantly, lots and lots of parts available for this car at the salvage yard
(96-01 Audi A4s and 98-05 VW Passats have swappable parts).

Email or IM - I'll send you pics and any other info you want.

Wow, looks like a great deal!

Where are you located?

Googling "MSRH" came back with Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston at msrh.org.

MSR Houston track, so I'd presume somewhere in that area.

Subtle nudge to put the "location" part of the "Price and location in the subject line" guidance found in the "sticky" for this section

I was going to do a "Yo, dog..." comment, but I resisted the temptation

... now I can't delete that - sorry ...

Sorry about that...  Yes, should have read the rules first.  :-)

Austin, TX
Car, spares, and all equipment is located in Austin, TX.
And yes, MSRH is Motor Sports Ranch Houston.

Not so.  Anyone that has built a car knows
$500 car
$1000 seat plus seat back brace
$2500 cage (professionally built cage, not trusting my life with your cousin’s welding)
$250 harness
$500 fire suppression system
$500 cool shirt system

Then this package comes with
$2000 new tires, 2 sets.  mounted, balanced ready to race.  Fallen Azeris RT660
$1000 new brakes pads, 2.5 sets.  Hawk HPS
$1000 spare rebuilt motor - from crank up, new bearings, rings, gaskets, head bolts, valve seals, all new
$500 spare gearbox and clutch

That’s nearly $10k and doesn’t even touch the mountain of spares and equipment needed for endurance racing.
Pit canopy, gas cans, fire extinguishers, 3 sets of wheels, and a ton of other new and used parts that come with the car.

If you want to drive around the track and finish 60th of 100 (most Lemons races here in TX have over 100 entries),
then yes, you can do that in your dad’s LTD if your cousin welds the cage, and you can do that for less than this package.

But if instead, you want to race for class and possible overall wins, and have all the parts you’ll need if there is anything
that breaks - or gets broken due to contact on the track when your racing buddy has brain fade, then this package is a steal.
And - it’s “OBO”, and it’s the holidays - make me an offer.  I’m feeling generous.

Not so.  Anyone that has built a car knows...

...that you cannot get out what you put in.  So we have built 5 cars now and been in it for over 10 years.  Even a well developed car with lots of spares will have difficulty bringing this kind of money in Lemons even if it is financially worth it.

Folks willing to spend that kind of money normally DO want to build their own dream.  Most buying pre-raced/prepped car are looking for a bargain/shortcut to get on track.  We regularly recomend it as the cheapest way to get on track, but this price point is for a developed team wanting to upgrade (see above about building their dream, not buying).  Heck, we even bought one to shortcut a stalled project.

So an honest good luck on the sale, and I hope you get what you want out of it.

I'm with OnkelUdo, every race car I've bought was for about a third-half of their build cost. I feel your pain, especially since it seems like you've really put a lot of love into it and built a lot of memories around this car. I hope you get what your asking, but unfortunately a potential buyer won't put a monetary value into your sweat equity... that's why I never sell any of my race cars lol.

Not my car...was trying to bring a littel reality, not matter how painful, to the owner.  We have successfully sold one car for the cost of the safety equipment and considered that a win.  The other...it got a viking funeral throwing a rod through the exhaust side of the engine.

Re: Sold: 2000 Audi A4, w/ spares/tires/pads - Austin, TX - $8500 OBO

Thanks - everyone - for the feedback.
I, too, have  built multiple cars (2) - and I think the key points here have been overlooked.
1.  This package (car/huge spares pile/pit equipment) did not cost what I am asking, $8500.  It cost way, way more than that.
And this does NOT include any sweat equity (we all know that sweat is free - right?)  :-)
2.  If you want to drive around mid-pack, spending hours in the pits working on your $3000 POS when you paid (likely)
$4000-$5000 to get to the race track to begin with (entry, tires, brakes, fuel, hotels, towing, food...) - then you're
looking at having an experience - yes.  But you are not trying to WIN races.
3.  If, however, you would like to have at least a chance of WINNING a race - nothing is for certain - but this car is a proven
Top 10 runner in multiple racing series - so if you want to WIN - you're likely gonna spend more than $3000.

Lastly, "OBO" is "Or Best Offer".   So, anyone can make any offer.  Here's some examples to get everyone thinking outside the box...
Offer 1 - Half.  Offer me $4250 and let me race with you for free in your first race in the car.
Offer 2 - 3/4.  Offer me $6500 - do the math, for your first race, you'll need $1000 in tires and this deal comes with 2 sets already.
Offer 3 - Full price.  Offer me $8500, and I'll rent a Uhaul, bring the car and all spares and equipment to you, and fly myself back to Austin.

I'm curious - who's winning races in $3000 cars?  Tires alone are at least $1000 (tires, tax, mount, balance).
And who would like to make an offer on this one?  :-)

My imagination, or is that a custom rear camber set up?

I think there's good value here if someone's in the market for a turn key race package.

The suggestion about thinking outside the box should spark some interest.

glws.

Would the trailer used to tow the car be possibly considered in the deal?

Thanks,

Kevin

Pretty sure he'd be dropping it off with its attached U-Haul tow vehicle, before he gets an Uber to the airport.

But it's true: if you don't ask, you don't get.

There have been established teams recently getting out of the game which have advertised packages which included trailer and tow vehicle. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: Sold: 2000 Audi A4, w/ spares/tires/pads - Austin, TX - $8500 OBO

Custom rear camber?
Yes - home grown, non-adjustable rear camber plates.
Greatly improves turn-in/rotation.

Trailer?
There is no trailer with this package.  Sorry.
I typically flat tow this car - with gas cans, canopy, fire extinguishers, etc. in the car itself.
Works well for near by tracks - for me, that’s any track within 300 miles.
Put it in neutral, attach the tow bar that will come with the car, n go.
With no trailer, you have no trailer weight to tow.  I’ve towed the car many times with a Toyota RAV4 hybrid, no issues.
So, don’t need a monster tow vehicle.  But certainly you could trailer the car.

Re: Sold: 2000 Audi A4, w/ spares/tires/pads - Austin, TX - $8500 OBO

More pics of the spares kit here.

Tons of new parts (coils, gaskets, plugs, fluids, tires...) and
a whole wall full of bins with replacements (suspensions, radiators, steering racks, body parts...).

In addition to the spare rebuilt engine, spare gearbox, and the 2 sets (8 total tires) of brand new Falken RT660 tires, there is:

    New alternator ($250 new)
Light weight flywheel with stage 2 clutch ($450 new)
Multiple ECUs (run different tunes - $100 each)
Two fully charged fire bottles ($75 each)
Front mount intercooler ($350 new.  don't run this in Lemons - you'll be penalized.  but works in other racing series.)
    Hood and front quarter panels
An entire wall full of parts bins with water pumps, head lights, manifolds, suspension parts,...

There's just too much to list and way, way more here than just the car.

would you mind elaborating a bit?

It is not.  We are Pure Black Racing with an Audi A4.
We race against, and are good friends with, Unintended Acceleration that race an Audi 90.

Can’t figure out IM on this forum, so please send me email and we can talk there.
My email address is my forum name here.

Just trying to sell the car and spares here.

And Chris - even if you are building your own B5 A4, Dude - there are so many spares here!!!
And, you’d have a spare car in case something happens to your build - or even just for more parts.

You’re gonna need tires for your first race - I have 2 brand new sets.
You’re gonna need gas cans to refuel car at pit stops - I have 16 of them, enough an entire race weekend.
You’re gonna need oil changes - I have 4 brand new Mann filters and Mobil 1 full synthetic oil.
You’re gonna need a canopy for shade at the race track - I have the heavy duty steel framed Summit Racing version.
You,re gonna need fire extinguishers for pit stops - I have 2 fully charged 10lbs fire extinguishers.

There is way more here than just the car.  And I’m really really looking to sell.
Are you sure you don’t want to make me an offer?!?
