Topic: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

Does anyone know which specific configuration we'll be running during all four time blocks: Friday practice, Saturday all day, Sunday AM, and Sunday PM?

The race info lists directions and lengths, but not whether we're running bypasses or full lengths or cyclones or whatzawhosits. Thanks in advance!

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

Info has been light so far.  Another thread here:  https://forums.24hoursoflemons.com/view … p?id=41222

Race info seems straightforward.  How I would structure practice based on what would be the most beneficial to the most racers:

AM: 3 mile classic (same as Sunday pm)
Lunch
PM: 5 mile reverse

This covers 2 of the 3 directions completely and most of the Sunday AM layout.  Unless I'm mistaken, we normally run the 5 mile forwards.  Most drivers have already raced this layout and would have the least benefit as the 5 mile forward covers all but 2 miles of it.  With teams arriving Friday, it would seem best to put the new 5 mile track on the second half of the day.

Rays days are here

Saturday, February 18
7am: Gates open
9 am am: Mandatory drivers meeting
9:30 am: Grid time--show up soon!
10 am-5 pm: Race session I on Thunderhill 5-Mile, Reverse Direction circuit
8pm: Gates close (no armband, no entry, no exception)

Sunday, February 19
7am: Gates open
8am-Noon: Race session II on Classic Thunderhill 3-Mile, Reverse Direction circuit
Noon-4 pm: Race session III on Classic Thunderhill 3-Mile, Classic Direction circuit
4:30 pm: Awards Ceremony
8pm: Vodden’s PA sent directly to all phones within two miles. Better get far away.

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

For those not familiar, we normally run 5E and skip 8W and 9W

here is how the 3 mile is laid out, per THill:

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

If anyone has a fast line through 1W / 10C in a low HP truck, I am all ears.

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

Unless I'm missing something, none of those maps or links address which configurations we're using at 5E and 10W/7W---I emailed the main guys to ask this question, and I'll post up once I hear back.

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

Ok I heard back and the all of the details are not yet finalized, but the current very-tentative plan is:

-All day Saturday, on the west/new track, we'll probably be using the direct connector between 10W and 7W. This will only ever be driven in reverse.

-All day Saturday and the morning of Sunday, on the east/classic track, when we're going in the reverse, the decision hasn't yet been made on whether or not we're running the cyclone/5E.

-On Sunday afternoon, when we're going the normal/forward/classic direction, we're probably using the cyclone/5E. This isn't finalized either yet though.

Again, none of this is finalized.

The Friday test session is entirely at the discretion of Thunderhill, though, so I guess we'll see?

Thanks for circling back.  Has anyone driven in reverse here?  Anything to look out for?

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

I'm considering posting a how-to for people with sim rigs that want to load thunderhill in assetto Corsa.

And this is a video of the 5 mile in reverse, but this guy also appears to be learning it, and they aren't running the same configuration we likely will.

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

Thanks I'll try and give it a look.  Looking for someone making mistakes.  5 mile regular I don't recall anything too tricky...Will be interesting if we can still go wide open through 8 backwards.  My guess is no, with the downhill we're gonna be moving.

Reverse 8E is a test of your intestinal fortitude.
Reverse 2E and 1E are pretty fast, and if you track left on 1E you will easily hit your top speed before 15E
Driving AC on Reverse West the transition from West to East is a bit tricky. There aren't many landmarks to
guide you through the corner.

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

Yea, were gonna be flying.  I'm thinking a 40+MPH difference between fast and slow cars by 15E.  In the forward configuration we run 2E at 70mph.  With a top speed of 100mph and the downhill of 1E, I think my car will hit top speed before the start/finish straight.  It will be o

8E backwards, with the downhill leading in, is certainly a test of the huevos.

Looks like 5E is also blind.

Our last adventure there.  About 3 degrees too much timing.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOjPz6OWvCQ

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

I hope test day is in the reverse direction on either the  3or 5 mile.  Track walk is going to help a lot for sure. It will be interesting to see what configuration they choose to run on Saturday for 5E and 10 W.  Should be fun but with lots of blind corners and strangely placed corner stations. Keep your eyes up boys and girls!

Here is another video of the three mile clockwise I found.

Re: Thunderhill Three-Tracks/One-Race Track Configuration Question

I mentioned up there that I would post some info on how to set up Thunderhill in sims. Here it is: https://forums.24hoursoflemons.com/view … p?id=41307
