Topic: Themes off limits

All,

Are there any themes that are off limits other than the obvious?  Nothing racist, sexist, etc...  got an idea from Formula 1 in the 90s that's rather scandalous, as long as I don't use any names.  Thank you!

Re: Themes off limits

I heard silver cannot be a theme.

I would assume Milhouse is not a theme, but maybe "milhouse is not a theme" could be a theme.

Re: Themes off limits

My Halloween Hooptiefest theme this year is truly distasteful- but I'm not gonna tell yall what it is.
The judges got a bit upset a few years back when one team superimposed their heads on porn stars/hentai bodies and made decals they put on their cars...

El Capitan of Team Corky
94 Miata transitioning to BRG because she now identifies as a Lotus previously covered in cork as Mazda/Toyo Kogyo tribute then painted like the Queen's coffin
4 time tire raffle winner. (So I got that goin for me which is nice)

If you want to live in infamy, you need to take risks (aside from trying to race a subaru...)

Also, if the league can do this, and follow it up with an Eiffel Tower constructed entirely of blowup dolls on top of a simca at gingerman, then I highly doubt that any theme any other team comes up with is going to be worse.

Bigamonsta... we need to talk!  You probably live at most 5 miles from me!  I got a crap ton of questions about this.  How can I get in touch with you?

Long story short, whatever is your theme could potentially be associated with your name and your image...so if your theme is the kind of thing that might get you fired and rendered completely unable to find work in the future, you might wish to think long and hard about that.

It's not that, but it is risque, related to a historically scandalous racing situation.

Bad taste would be theming something about dead fans in the stands at the 1955 24 hrs of Le Mans disaster.

Funny theming would be doing something like making fun of the vinwiki homeslice guy from AER and walking around all weekend at the penalty box saying "it's youuuu homeslice, get off the track..."

I'd just take Eric's advice in stride and do what you want.

Well, there goes our next great theme right down the drain...

Re: Themes off limits

I think a better analogy would be to look at two ways a single bad taste subject like Nazis could be handled.  A Nazi Easy Bake Oven theme would not go well.  A well done Mel Brooks or Blues Brother's type Nazi theme would probably fly.

And both of the "good" themes have been done.  The Springtime one was pretty funny.

Re: Themes off limits

There's an "anal probe" team that has "probes" attached to sawzalls....I think you're going to be fine.

HEY THATS US!
Fun fact one of the people that were most involved in this was a judge for Pitt race and Gingerman this year.

Re: Themes off limits

I was in line for tech at Thompson just ahead of “Pill” Cosby, handing out Jell-O shots with a girl passed out on their roof. Haven’t laughed that hard at a theme before or since.

Have at it I say.

"Totally Consensual Racing" was, suffice to say, a divisive concept from the team who also themed as Britney Steers (with a baby seat bolted to the roof), 50 Shades of AAA, Game of Crumplezones, and All Day Rose. Most recently, they were Pride Boys and the Tiki Torch Takeback, which somehow enraged even more people than the Pill Cosby theme.

Anyway, they're well aware of the potential consequences of their more risqué themes and are pretty fearless about it as well as savagely sarcastic.
