Topic: Rental race suits?

My race team has been accepted to the Lemons fall south race and I have 4 drivers committed, but 2 of them are having trouble coming up with funds to buy their safety gear.  Is there any place that rents race suits?

Re: Rental race suits?

No, but you could probably buy used suits and then resell them after the race for the same amount.  They would still have to shell out some money, but it would be cheaper in the end.

Where's a good place to buy a used suit? Does anybody know of a website that has classifieds for racing stuff other than ebay or craigslist?

Re: Rental race suits?

There was a recent thread about used NASCAR suits.  Also try Grassroots Motorsports or other racing mag classifieds.  Teams are always changing sponsors and getting new gear.

Re: Rental race suits?

I bought my single layer suit, used once, on eBay for $30.  I added all the necessary underwear and stuff and I was set.

The used NASCAR suits are at raceimage.com, but even the cheap ones aren't all that cheap. Welcome to racing.

Re: Rental race suits?

The cheapest 2-layer gear I've seen that wasn't on sale was at Speedway Motors for $199.99.  Wescoperformance usually has dirt-cheap stuff as well, and is where we got our stuff last year.

The cheapest route is generally to share a multilayer suit between the two guys.  The next-cheapest is to get a layer of underwear for each of them, then share a dirt-cheap single-layer suit.

The best way I can think of to get some renting going on would be to find a team nearby that isn't racing at your race, then pay them some small fee for use of their gear.

Or even cheaper would be a single-layer suit, share a pair of underwear, a bottle of gold bond, and a can of XK-12 to get the funk out between driver/suit changes. WHEW*

Re: Rental race suits?

Just a note about buying a used suit - make sure it hasn't been altered (as I had to do with mine, not being 6 feet tall like most suits seem to fit). If you are tall, you'd hate to get MY suit height!
