Topic: wide hoses for fueling jugs?

Anyone know where to get the extra wide hoses for our jugs?  Mine are a bit small.  Thanks for any sourcing help.

(struggling to refrain from a "that's what she said" joke)

Home Depot has a pretty good variety of fuel-safe reinforced vinyl hose. I think the real trick is that for most fuel jugs, in order to run a wider hose, you need to modify the threaded part on the fuel jug -- like drill it out and tap it for a larger screw-in flange/spout -- and my understanding of the new fuel jug rule was "no fuel jug modifications, ever, ever" from the line of posts back around Christmas time, with the threat of a mandatory 2-hour penalty for violating the fueling regs. Right?

Re: wide hoses for fueling jugs?

It's not the hose size...it's the vent size that determines speed of delivery.

Re: wide hoses for fueling jugs?

We have some fast flowing jugs, I was hoping to get more.  None of them were modified.  I understand the veting issue, but our fast flowers seem to have the same tabbed vent as the others.

It's not the size of the hose .... but how you use it...   There I fixed it

Re: wide hoses for fueling jugs?

We use the Home Depot clear 1-5/8" OD hose. 2.5 ft of it so with the jug on the ground we can feed the hose into the gas opening then pick up the jug and dump it without spilling. This is with the Hunzaker 5 gal jugs.

Re: wide hoses for fueling jugs?

We saw a big improvement in dump speed by going from the stock 3/4ID hose that came with our jugs years ago, to a 1"ID hose.

If this "mod" concerns you from a legality standpoint, then don't do the mod.  Just buy it from Summit for $12.

Re: wide hoses for fueling jugs?

Venting along with the size of the dump hose both affect how fast they dump.

Still using this tech, hoses need to be trained to hold shape BEFORE going to a cold race.
