Topic: Kill switch - procurement?

Howdy ya'll,
I'm seeking recommendations on where to buy a cheap but rules-satisfying electrical killswitch.  Also, it looked like the keyed switch was king at Lemons South, are the push/pull variety not acceptable, or just silly looking, expensive, etc...

Much obliged for your comments. smile

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

Speedway=$25 alternator plus kill switch. There are many other suppliers, but this is the cheapest I've found so far.

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

FYI, our longacre kill switch failed during use at CMP.  We won't be using that product brand any longer.

We won the IOE at Southern Discomfort.
We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

the previous post's product picture...  looks just exactly like the longacre one we have used for two events and didn't have any issues.  I suspect there are three manufacturers of them and they are sold under various names.

on the failure, what happend and how did you deal with in?

thanks-

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

#1 While turning it "on," it wouldn't aways make a connection.  You had to hit it with something - wrench, rock, something else handy to get it to start working.

#2 It would randomly turn on and off once in the on position and working.  Sometimes for a second and othertimes would completely fail.

It was intermittant throughout the weekend and we couldn't trace it but got really bad in the last couple of hours of the race.  Tracing it usually involved turning the master power off and on at some point so it always seemed to solve itself.

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

I bought mine from a shop that specializes in drag racing supplies.  It was the weekend before the race and I didn't have time to shop around.  The guy there recommended finding a store that specializes in boating supplies for good cheap ones.

God bless Harbor Freight

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

Install 2 of those? One for battery and on to kill the spark? Is it up to the job? Also, does the key lock into the switch. I'd hate for it to go missing when you  needed to start or kill the car.

Re: Kill switch - procurement?

We would have had to use two to work on our Escort. That's why we ended up going with a four post switch. I figured that if I really needed to shut the car down, or have someone shut it down for me, that I didn't want to screw around with two switches.
