Topic: Behold the Ford Prefect!

Loads more pics to come in the morning when glorious sunlight will bathe the diminutive Ford and allow me to photograph it in all its rusty glory...

Oh... just saw the party on the other post... forget I was ever here... (I feel depressed I was not invited. How I hate the night.)

Re: Behold the Ford Prefect!

Wow. It looks perfect. Like one of those rusty old cars that people photograph at night in the desert.

Don't change it one bit. Figure out how you can make the numerals look similarly weathered, but otherwise, just leave it stock. That primer looks just right.

What could go wrong...

We won the IOE at Southern Discomfort.
We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Re: Behold the Ford Prefect!

I just gotta figure out if our free 50 HP Honda Shadow 1100 motorcycle engine is enough power for this car. It should be, but if we're going to all the trouble to swap in a custom drivetrain, we don't wanna be a rolling chicane. Hmm, maybe a tiny, light Geo Tracker 1.6/5 speed?

Re: Behold the Ford Prefect!

I saw this on Craigslist a few weeks ago. I passed on it due to the engine.  Or what kind of engine should go into it..  I didnt know enough about that type of car so I went with an Aircooled vehicle.

Anything can be made to fit into anything else...

It's just a matter of how incredibly insane you are.

heh. dodge intrepid/chrysler concorde/300M/Eagle Vision drivetrain? long-wise mounted V6. if you're lucky enough, you could get the 250hp-flavored 3.5L mid-mounted smile

Re: Behold the Ford Prefect!

Meh. LOTS of seam rust, no title, no running drivetrain, crap rotten interior. It's a Lemons car through and through.

I WAS gonna tag and drive the Caddy after the race. My illustrious cousin killed those plans with a tire wall. Maybe he shouldn't get to drive this one...

This car isn't much larger than I am and it has rust holes big enough for me to stick my arm through.
Just because it's "straight" don't mean it ain't rotten to the core.
And trust me, I know better than you, because it's sitting in my back yard, and I've been under it and in it.
You probably can't tell from the pics (flat black hides a lot, too) but the floor pans were completely rotted and have been removed and replaced with thick sheetmetal of the type you'd find in industrial shelving units. It's a solid replacement job but it's so far from OE as to be comical.

Also, a guy on my board lives in Scotland, and says these are incredibly rare cars. One assumes it's because they all rusted to dust over there sometime in the mid-70s.

Re: Behold the Ford Prefect!

Sounds like a Chevy Vega, they rusted in the factories while they were being built.
